(XP) Fert Report

The embryologist just called with bad news. They injected 14 of the 16 eggs with sperm and as of this morning only 7 are still growing. They have no idea why. I don't even know what to say. We're devastated. We lost half already, which is detrimental for my genetic condition .

Can DH having a cold (no fever that I know of) have affected his sperm? We plan on asking this Monday but I just don't get how this happened... Last time every single one was fertilized and kept growing for a few days. My eggs can only be affected in two ways (I think) with my condition and both of those types fertilized last time. I don't see how my eggs could have been "extra bad" this time, nor how DHs sperm be bad when it has always been great.
If it was technical error on their part, I know they will never tell us

I have no advice but to tell you I am praying for the 7 that are growing to be the QUALITY embryos you need them to be. You are still in the game and you're not alone with prayers and good thoughts coming your way.

I'm sorry you had a lower fert rate than you expected. I hope you have a few good embryos in those seven. FX for you.

I'm so sorry. I know how devastating it can be when you don't know why something happened. There could have been a dysmorphic egg problem as well. Maybe you can speak with your RE and see if the lab saw anything?

FX for the ones that did fertilize.

I'm sorry you are disappointed. I remember the same thing happening to us, where a bunch died off at the start. Then, we ended up with 2 to transfer and 4 frosties. I hope the same happens for you. Prayers

Seven isn't a bad number. That's all they got from me total! All it takes is one. I hope the remaining embies all grow and thrive. Are you doing PGS?

@pblge yes, we're doing PGS on day 5.

Seven doesn't seem like a bad number,but since we already know that the vast majority of my eggs are bad, that brings our chances down significantly that there will be a healthy one. We were told to expect only 10-15% to be healthy.

I am so sorry. 7 is still good and you still have a chance for healthy embryos. All cycles are different as far as fertilization. My first IVF 5 out of 5 mature fertilized. My second IVF 9 out of 14 mature fertilized. I asked my RE why and he said thats the way it happens sometimes and every cycle is different. I think there may have been some issues in the lab but who really knows. GL and hoping a few of yours are healthy and can be transferred.

Siggy warning I was told I had 11 retrieved first day but 2nd day nurse reported only 7 and 4 fertilized. Low and behold on day 5 we had 4 blastocysts and one more that ended up being a surprise fighter! Don't lose hope.

Keep your head up. It only takes one good one. I was disappointed this last time when we only had 13 retrieved and only 8 were mature. 7 of those fertilized. We ended up with 2 to transfer and 2 to freeze. FX the ones you have are good ones.
