Alice flips her chit when we try to do anything more than one arm out of the swaddle. She will literally scream off and on for 3 hours or more at bedtime... and I don't even know how long it would continue because I swaddled her after that. She will not sleep at all unless she has at least one arm in the swaddle, same with her legs.
She also won't take sippy cups at all. We have the Nuby soft spouts that people say work well, the straw kind, the hard kind... nothing. She screams hysterically, pushes it away, and does so until we offer a bottle. Won't take it outside her normal bottle times, either.
Charlotte is off the swaddle and we had some luck getting her to take the sippy at first, but now she refuses it as well.
ETA that we just tried mixing whole milk and formula and Alice screamed hysterically and would only take 3.5 oz. Under much protest.
Anyone deal with something similar? I'm not in a huge rush to get them off bottles, but I am a little concerned by their really violent responses to the idea.
Re: Won't use sippy cups, or give up the swaddle!
1st of all- ADORABLE sig photo!
2nd, as a fellow mom of twins, I generally support the theory that with two, anything goes. Both my babies were swaddled for a loooong time- DH and I used to joke that they'd eventually come up to us before bed and ASK to be swaddled! What finally worked was doing a sleeper over their pjs- their arms are free, but still layered and warm, and their feet are in the bunting part.
I would just hold off on the sippy cups. Maybe try once a week for a while, one day it will just TAKE- I promise.
Good luck!
I really would not fight the swaddle, asl long as she is sleeping who cares how she sleeps. Some kids need blankies, teddy bears, your dd needs the swaddle.
As for the sippy cups it really took my kids awhile to really get use to them. I started around 9 months old and we just practice with them at snack time. i would feel them with water, and juice from time to time. When i first gave them the cups they were more interested in eating the bottle of the cup. My kids did fine when we switched to milk and the will take milk from the bottle and the sippy cup. She will use a cup before she goes to preschool so i would not sweat the small things.
Hey girlie!
DD hated the swaddle after a few weeks so I am no help there but I wanted to tell you about sippys. She took a while to warm up to them and one day just refused the bottle all together. It was one of those things that I had NO control over.
Payton is still on bottles at 16mo... well actually, we are trying to wean her right now. She hasn't had a bottle since Tuesday night. Bedtime is the worst but she's getting it. (I would have weaned her months ago but the Ped recommended her stay on formula until she ate better, for nourishment.) She's finally eating table food for the most part. Picky little girl!
As far as swaddling goes, I'd have swaddled P until she went to kindergarten if it made her sleep.
Good luck. The girls are getting so big and cute as ever!
