Clothes: 24M -vs- 2T ???

Ok ... this is such a silly question.  DD is in 18 months.  Some of her stuff is getting a little tight.  They still fit, but I think I should get a few more outfits in a bigger size to get her through the winter/early spring.  I'm just torn on if I should go with 24 months or 2T.  My mom claims up and down that the only differant between the two is that 2Ts have smaller butts because by the time kids are in 2T they aren't in diapers anymore.  But I think she's wrong.  We're not even close to starting potty training!  I usually shop at Carter's, and I cheked thier size chart, and there is definatly a differance between the two.  Although it is a very small differance.

I'll have to try to measure and weigh her in the next few days to see which she is closer to.  However for a while I've felt like Carter's were cut on the smaller side.

Carter's also has 25% Clearence through Monday.  So if I find any stuff that might be more appropriate for spring (short sleved stuff), I might get a few things for when the weather turns.

Wondering if I can skip 24 M?

Just curious if anyone else has had this internal debate between 24M and 2T?  Or maybe I'm just crazy!?!?!

EDD 10/15/16
At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

Re: Clothes: 24M -vs- 2T ???

  • Clothes for kids are crazy. Z can wear 12 months in some clothing then wear 24 months in others. It makes no sense!! My sis sent her a 2T shirt and it fits. Along with the 18 month shirts she got for Christmas, which are still a little big!

Once I know the brand I can shop kind of accordingly. Or I just buy big and roll and cuff. haha
  • Loading the player...
  • Just get 2T- everything I've read says there's a minor difference in the cut (more diaper room in 24M) and a slightly longer length. i'd rather have slightly bigger things so that DS can get more use out of them. we've gotten lots of 2T jeans and are just rolling them up and adjusting the elastic in the waistband so they're a little smaller. but as PP said, there is wild variation in sizing, and things usually shrink a lot in the wash.
  • Sizing is so frustrating. I would go with the 2T.

My DS is in 18 months, but sometimes can fit in 12 or even 9 month, and can wear 24 month size but 2T is huge on him.

  • 2t is longer than 24 months so if ur kid has short legs I'd do 24 months in pants/shorts. I shop consignment sales and my boys are on the shorter side so I buy whichever I like/can find/is cheaper.

  • Thanks ladies!  I think I'm on the same page.  DD had a few outfits she got for x-mas that are 24 months.  I intentionally didn't get her alot of clothes for x-mas because I wanted to see if family would get her clothes.

I like how the shirts fit on her.  They are big, but I like her to have room to grow.  However the 24 M pants, I have mixed feelings about.  Leggins are big but doable.  But a pair of cords are too big in the waist.  I'm able to roll them up.  But does anyone have tricks for big waist bands?

  • @annieluvsjorgan - Thanks!  I sew on occassion (if I have to).  I made pj bottoms for my FIL and MIL for x-mas.  But before that I hadn't taken my sewing machine out of the box in over 5 years!  I'm going to have to google some instructions to sew darts!  I think that will help with the waist issue!  As they grow, I assume you've had to take out the darts?  Are they fairly easy to remove?  I'm afraid to ruin the clothes!

  • @annieluvsjordan - Thanks for the tutorial!  Those Dapper Snappers are genious!  Except they only work for pants with belt loops!

  • @toni79, you could always try suspenders....hahaha!

  • I think DD only had a few 24M things...she mostly went from 18M to 2T.

DS still fits in some of his 9M pants, so don't need to worry about it for him for awhile. :)

Yes!  Suspenders!  And our course a pocket protector to complete the "look"!
