Baby's first words

Obviously our N '13 babies had to have inherited our wit, charm, intelligence, and damned good looks.

Case in point, none of this dada/ mama crap- my child clearly said "Crab Rangoon" this morning and has several times exclaimed, "Oh God!" during some of our more outrageous diaper changes.

What have you heard from your little genius in what others would call "babblings"?

A mmm sound is close to mum and quite reasonable to want it to be. No judgement.
  • Compared to your LOs, I'm worried mine is underachieving.

However, he did say "oh, no" at one of his doctor's appointments while getting some reflexes checked and has said "no, Nan, no" while I changed his diaper. 6 weeks old and already refusing to call me Mom..
  • E was sleeping very soundly while dh and I were watching a movie, woke suddenly and screamed HIIIIIIIIIIII. Scared the pants off of us. Does anyone play Left for Dead 1 or 2? She sounded just like a Smoker.

Left 4 Dead addict here. DH and I play it a lot. Our 2 yo has her own fake remote and gets the "pipe bombs" and "ih-tars" (guitars). She warned us to watch out for the smoker when we were playing the other day. :)

My LO usually just yells at me "Hey! Where do you think you're going with that boob?"

My pump seriously talks to me. It sounds like it says all sort of stuff when that thing is running.

My pump says "They Know, they know!"
  • I've heard "yeah" and "ow" a few times.  But last night, while I was trying to sleep and she was babbling to herself, I swear I heard full sentences.  Sneaky little girl...

  • My baby mostly makes Ahhh noises, but once it did sound like she said hi.

If my pump starts talking to me, I think I might need to be medicated... ;)
IVF, acupuncture, meditation and a miracle.

  • My pump talks to me too!

  • C is quite verbose.  She very clearly stated this morning "No mother, that long-sleeved pink onesie will not do, I would much prefer the short-sleeved white one with the elephant on it.  Loxodonta are by far my favourite land mammal."

Then she returned to babbling nonsensically.

This cracks me up.  When I'm nursing Maggie, when she pops off, I burp her and reoffer.  She *often* licks my nipple a time or two and then makes this face like it's the worst thing she's ever tasted and scrunches up her body and pushes away.  I always say, "A simple 'No, thank you, Mommy, I'm quite finished,' will do, young lady."

Sometimes LO will nurse for a second and make this disgusted look! I always tell "quit acting like it tastes bad! It's liquid gold!" Lol. When he's crying as he takes the boob I swear he's saying "mom!!!!" DH says it doesn't count as his first word.. I think it should! And when he's whining I can hear "no" and "mama"

  • Dh and I were heading out and had lo in his carseat. He was screaming "murderer, murderer, murderer" over and over again. Dh and I both heard it!! Super creepy
  • M only says "heyyy" and "yea?"

  • My pump talks to me too. When I pumped for the first time for my DS two years, I heard "run out, run out, run out". DH and I laughed so hard I had to turn it off. :) This time, it's said "work out, work out"...I think it's trying I tell me something.

Baby currently coos nonsense, I'm okay with that since my 2 year old won't stop yelling, er, I mean talking. Toddler loud is LOUD
  • I swear my child's first word will be fu*k. When he wakes up really hungry and pissed in the middle of the night I swear he screams it. Probably from all the times he hears me say " you have got to be f'n kidding me" when he goes through three diapers Of shit in a 10 min period. Mommy has a potty mouth. Oops
  • I've heard P say oh and hi for sure, and maybe a mom once while being changed.

My friends 12 month old said "oh shit" it was his first words other than mama and dada lol.
  • Just decided M's first word will be "Selfies!"

  • I haven't made out words. Just a guh here and there. She does have the ear piercing squeal when she's laughing down quite well though.

Not my kid, but cute story from one of my friends.  They have two little girls who were watching Sponge Bob.  Ages 4 and 2.  Dad is chatting with mom.  All of a sudden the little 4-year-old says "Dad, shut the f*ck up when Spongebob is on"....2-year-old responds "Aw Snap"

    Whhhhat? Not cute at all.

I think it is hilarious. I'm sure they had a talk with her about that not being an okay word to use, or an appropriate way to talk to people, but your kids are going to pick up and use words you don't want them to. Set them straight, move on and laugh about it when they're not around.
    I laughed...
