Lopsided supply, help!!

My LO is 9 months and is EBF. In the last week or so I've noticed my one boob's supply seems a lot lower than the other (the small boob, TMI). Today I pumped at work and the larger boob gave me twice as much as the smaller boob. Usually they are pretty close, or only vary by and ounce or so when I pump. I'm hoping to make it to a year so I'm hoping my one boob isn't starting to dry up. Any thoughts?!?!

Re: Lopsided supply, help!!

  • For me one boob has always had more milk than the other. My left side has always filled up faster and produced more when pumping and I've nursed my first lo just fine for two years and now I'm nursing two. You're probably fine if you're nursing on both side regularly. If you want to increase supply in the smaller boob maybe try pumping on just that side for awhile?

  • I've had a decrease lately in my weaker side too. My LO is 8.5 months. I think it may be related to the fact she is pickier now and wants the stronger/faster flow side. I just keep offering that side first, but she usually rejects it and pulls away, while pushing my breast away. After she feeds on the stronger side I put her back and she'll usually nurse more then. My pumping output has really become unbalanced. I get 5 oz from the one side, and only 2 from the other. But, I'm still producing enough between the two sides to meet her needs, so I'm fine with it. GL!
