Why two ultrasounds?

I went to my first ultrasound today. She told me she was going to do both an anatomy scan to check for a sac and then do a vaginal to check everything else and to actually see the baby. Does anyone know why they do both? Wouldn't a transvaginal ultrasound pick up the sac?

Mine just did a transvaginal and didn't bother with the abdominal one.  Maybe they just tried that one first and since it couldn't pick up as much, then did the transvaginal?

There's some things a transvaginal u/s can see that an abdominal u/s cant.
