Hiccups ?

My LO gets the hiccups all the time, at least twice a day usually. She didn't seem to be bothered by them before but now she is starting to get a little irritated and it interrupts her feeding. Plus they last forever!

I'm guessing there's not much that I can do. My cousin said putting some sugar on a pacifier helped her son, but I'm not sure I want to be feeding her sugar, especially in the middle of the night. Any one have any strategies that help?

Do you mean feed her through the hiccups and when she finishes they are gone? And sorry if this is a repetative thread, didn't see cash's before.

I do burp her pretty thoroughly whenever she unlatches. Sometimes she will even have a couple of good burps before the hiccups start

Gripe Water. You can get it at BRU. It works for us all the time.

My LO gets them 2x a day and they last for awhile too. He also has acid reflux not sure if that is a link. He also would get them 2x a day in utero. Just started the reflux meds yesterday so I will have to see if that helps.

Thanks ladies. I've wondered if she might have some slight reflux. She spits up every once and a while but not a lot. Also sounds very nasally and congested off and on through out the day. I will have to try the gripe water and see if that helps!

Gripe water always gets rid of DS2's hiccups. If you breastfeed that can get rid of hiccups as well.

The only thing that gets rid of DD's is when I put her on my boob. She gets pretty pissed when she has them and it works every time for us.

Feeding gets rid of my LO's hiccups and so does bouncing him in his bouncy chair for a couple of minutes.

My LO also stops hiccuping when I nurse her.

I asked my LC about this and she said in her experience the only ways to get rid of them were to nurse again, or to let baby cry and that will get rid of them,

My pedi said its their way of strengthening their lungs, and that they can spontaneously happen up to a year.

Yeah I asked pediatrician about it in hospital and he said there is nothing you can do and nothing you should do, it's just something that happens don't worry about it

Gripe water. Hiccups are normal due to immature sphincter...

I think it was the nurses in the hospital that says feeding the baby will help their hiccups go away. The mentality behind it is that when they are sucking, they hold their breath like an adult would do to help hiccups subside.

I feed him or give him a pacifier. Sucking in general helps.

Yeah mine gets them all the time too. Sucking does seem to help but sometimes LO doesn't cooperate.

This exactly! I have also been burping more frequently during feeding as per @chillpr and started gas drops for what I suspect is gas pains- she has been hiccuping less (and gas pain seems to be better also).

This exactly for my LO also! OP please let me know if gripe water seems to help with congestion and/or spit up.
