has this happened to anyone else? heartbeat doppler vs baby on the move

I think my LO is destined to make me happily crazy... At my last appt, my on tried to get a HB. Took what felt like ages as LO just kept moving around. Today I tried at home with my Doppler, heard the HB for a few seconds, then lost it. Is this a sign of something wrong? Or a result of eating a whole bunch of Good n Plenty beforehand?

Either way, I think I'm retiring my Doppler.

Re: has this happened to anyone else? heartbeat doppler vs baby on the move

  • My LO has kicked my doppler multiple times and she generally always finds a way to get away from it

    It's a BOY

  • I've heard this about at home dopplers, because they're not as good as the ones at the doctors office. They don't pick HB as well. I've noticed when the dr uses one she starts moving around a lot. I've read that it is because they are very loud to the baby. I'm not sure that's true or not, but she defiantly seems to dislike the process!

  • Had a check up recently and had the same thing happen!  My OB tried for a long time to catch her heartbeat.  It seemed like we almost heard it zip by a time or two, but she couldn't find it for sure.  She took me back for a quick U/S (i was still high risk at the time) and baby's heartbeat was perfectly healthy!  She was just moving around so much the doppler couldn't get a read on it.  All was well!  If you're catching it even briefly, try not worry!
  • Baby is just moving :)  At my last appointment, the midwife had no trouble finding the heartbeat but had to move the doppler constantly to keep up with a constantly moving kiddo.
  • my kids always ran away from the doppler at the drs so i vowed never to get one because i would end up crying when i couldn't hear the heartbeat late at night or some such nonsense. i wonder what it feels/sounds like to them if so many babies have similar reactions. poor things.

  • thank you all :)

I guess my LO just dislikes the noise. I think I will tell my DH to hide my dopplar. It's going to cause more harm than good. G-d willing, one day I will have the chance to share with LO how crazy they made the dr, and mom and dad!
