AF after D&C?

Um is it possible to get AF 5 days after a D&C? I had no complications from mine which was done this past Tuesday. No bleeding after and barely any spotting, no aches and pains. I just woke up to red discharge just like I do sometimes when I wake up to my period. I'm not in any pain and I don't have a fever. I'm going to call my dr tomorrow just to check but figured I'd ask in case anyone has experience with this.

Re: AF after D&C?

  • I'm not 100% sure but I don't think so...I had the same thing happen, no blood immediately after my D&C for 5 days and then I starts bleeding on and off for a few weeks. But definitely call your doctor.

  • It is normal to have some bleeding and cramping a week or even 2 later. Its not AF though but still bleeding related to the D&C. Call if its heavy, like saturating pads in less than hour or you have severe pain.
  • It's most likely not your AF. I had my D&C on nov 12, then on the 17th I passed 2 large clots... I freaked out and called the ob who said that there was some tissue high up in my uterus that had to pass on its own. She used that date (the 17th) to start "counting" the days as my body reset itself. I had AF 28 days later like normal. However keep in mind cycle can be very wonky following a procedure.

Hope that gives a little insight.

Hugs. So sorry for your loss

  • I agree that it is not AF. I had my D&C on the 39th. I had some spotting for a couple days then nothing for a couple days. Then a little heavier bleeding then spotting until today. Your D&C is usually day 1 of your cycle unless you pass more clots later. My 2 week appt is tomorrow.

  • I agree with the other posters that it is not AF.  With one of my d&c's I didn't have any bleeding until about 4days later. Then I had bleeding/spotting for 2weeks once it started.

Counting the day of the d&c as CD1, my first d&c AF showed up about 50days later.  With my second d&c AF showed up 42 days later.

If you're upto it, you can do weekly hpt's and see if they're still positive. That should give you a time range of when to expect AF. I did them with both and each time I was able to turn a hpt positive for 5-6weeks before AF finally showed up.

Wow really? Ugh I hope it doesn't take that long :/ I hate not having a clue when it's coming. I'm a bit of a control freak and this whole not knowing stinks.

I hope it doesn't take that long for you either. There are crazy flukes & some ladies waited much longer, one was 90-something days before af returned for her. General rule of thumb is if af doesn't show within 60days, that warrants a call to your doctor.
