I had my cerclage placed at 16wks, this is my second. I had a cerclage with DS. I had a cone biopsy when I was younger which shortened my cervix considerably. I haven't had any complications with this one or the one placed with DS. Your doctor will remove it around 33-34 wks generally, and nature will takes it from there
Hi Luvsparrow, thanks for responding. I also had a cone biopsy when I was younger+ a LEEP procedure. This is my first pregnancy. I am feeling good about the success of the stitch, but am curious about activity level. Did you have bedrest, or resume normal activities?
I am 16 weeks 1 day with twins. I had 2 leeps where they done a "cowboy hat" aka cone biopsy on the 2nd leep. When we started talking to doctors about getting pregnant a cerclage did come up. My cervix shortened to 2.6cm Dec 19th. My doc is taking weekly measurements of my cervix. The doctor has said that if it shortens anymore a cerclage will happen. I had complications with incompetent cervix with my first 2 pregnancies but no cerclage was ever put in place. I am actually glad you posted in here. My doc is holding off on a cerclage due to the twins. Praying that we don't end up there but if we do.... I will do all I have to make sure my babies stay where they need to as long as possible
Lurking from May board (due late May). I got a cerclage for short cervix (1.7cm) at 19 weeks. I am on daily progesterone suppositories, weekly ultrasound checks, and am told to stay off my feet as much as possible and to work 1/2 days. They may put me on strict bed rest if things worsen. I had an unremarkable, healthy first pregnancy with my son so they're not sure what triggered this.
Do you know what kind of cerclage they placed in you? I got mine at 18 weeks 6 days, and was measuring around 2.4cm. They put in a shirodkar stitch. I have my follow-up on Friday to make sure everything is holding and all looks well. So far, I've had no problems with recovery, but have pretty much been on bedrest since. My doctor said to just "take it easy" but I am staying off my feet as much as possible until my follow-up. I asked my doctor about progesterone, but he said that since they don't think my issue is PTL that I shouldn't need the progesterone, just the stitch. It seems that everyone on these boards that has a cerclage, also used progesterone. Should I keep asking him about it? I want to do everything possible. If there are no side effects from the progesterone, I don't see why I shouldn't be on it?
My sister had one put in, she had 2 cone procedures done around age 20 and 22 (she was 26 when she had my nephew). I'll see what more I can find out for you. She only made it to 31 weeks. She started bleeding at 30 weeks and was in the hospital on bed rest for a week and she was having contractions. They couldn't get them to stop so they had to remove the stitch and she went into labor the next day. She should have stayed off her feet more though and I think she would have made it a little longer. Nephew is doing great though despite being so early.
I had 2 leeps done in the past 20 months, I had a cervical length check on Tuesday and I should hear from my doc tomorrow on what our next steps are. The tech did say that everything looked good. I have checks scheduled every 4 weeks.
I had a McDonald cerclage put in between 12 and 13 weeks. Was told to take it easy for a couple days. I've had two follow-ups so far, and all looks well. Mine was placed based on history of an incompetent cervix. They didn't feel progesterone was necessary but will continue to monitor and reevaluate if needed.
Sorry it has taken so long to reply, I had a McDonald cerclage, I was on pelvic rest for 7 days and am on light activity for the duration of my pregnancy. The only complaint has been that DH can feel the sutures during intercourse. My biggest fear with the first cerclage was that I would go into active labor so quickly that I would tear but that was just my crazy imagination. From what I was told it is one continuous suture that is easily and quickly removed when the time comes
