June 2014 Moms

blah, blah, blah

My kid is 2 and knows to cover his mouth when he coughs or sneezes. Obviously he isn't perfect at it but he tries. So, then, why can't adults do it? I was at the pharmacy and there was a woman there coughing away, not covering her mouth. Another lady was there with her sick kid and her kid was hacking up a lung and she didn't give her a gentle reminder even once. WTF is wrong with people?

Oh, and I went to a playdate this week with two moms who had newish babies (less than 6 months.) The one with the youngest baby was sick. Yet, she insisted on helping us cook (the point of the bake sale.) So, now I am sick (again) and the other mom is sick. The other mom posts today about not feeling well and the other chick replies, "Well, if you have a sore throat and feel like you have the worst hangover of your life, then you caught my virus. OH, and post nasal drip." Again, WTF is wrong with people? She knew I was pregnant. She knew there were going to be other young babies there. Why wouldn't she STAY HOME? This is the second playdate in two weeks where someone who should've stayed home, didn't. I live in a one cow town so if anyone understands the need to get out, it's me. But I don't do it to the detriment of others. Sometimes I really don't like people. Ugh.

  • My 2yo and 4yo cover their mouths when they cough, they know not to sneeze on people, and they excuse themselves as well. Some people don't care and its sad (and annoying). My kids first words all included using manners after learning mommy and daddy of course. Some people have no common courtesy! I hope you feel better!!

  • I'm to the point now where I will say, 'Please cover your mouth!' It is literally horrifying to me how people have no regard for others.

  • I'm upset because I have a brand new niece coming home from the hospital today and we can't go and see her because DH and I are both still sick!  C's doing all right, but we're both still blowing our noses and coughing.  I'm not subjecting a new mom and her newborn to that, it's not fair.  It sucks, but it's just not going to happen.  We'll hopefully be better next weekend and will meet her then.

  • I have a co-worker who, for lack of space, shares my cubicle with me. She sneezes constantly right into her hands and continues about her business. Who does that? She doesn't even do the cursory "rub it on her pants" trick". It's wet hand, right back on her mouse, the supplies, the copier, doorknobs, etc. She is at least 35. She has a supply of Kleenex and hand sanitizer right on her desk and ignores them. It's quite gross, and I don't even know what to say to her without sounding like a paranoid pregnant woman. I hate her and it's quite obvious as we spend 8 hours a day in a 7x7 cube without speaking. At all.

I second this. I would say something. Or just be a little nonchalant and say "Bless you, would you like some germ-x?"

Not a bad idea! I will ask her next time - I'm a total puss about stuff like this but I have had it. It's been going on since she got the job in July. My whole department knows how gross she is, but she doesn't have a clue. Even my friend's 4 year old knows to not sneeze or cough into his hands!

  • That's awful, she shouldn't have been working near food!! I always remind my 3 year old to cover up, sometimes she forgets but I never do!
