Housekeeping cost/frequency?

I know it differs based on COL, but how much do you pay your housekeeper? How frequently do they come? Are they a company, or an individual?

I was initially thinking we'd do biweekly, but after the quote, I'm leaning more towards monthly. Would monthly be enough for you? Are there benefits to biweekly that maybe I'm not seeing?

  • $85 every 2weeks. My house is 1800 sq ft

  • Im feeling like they're charging a little too much. We got quoted $105 every 2wks or $130 if monthly for ~1300sqft (not sure if the exact number since we're renting). We don't live in a HCOL area. I think maybe I need to look around more.

  • We use a company and pay $115 monthly for 2300sqft in a MCOL area. I would suggest getting at least one more quote. We found our company through angieslist

  • $100 every other week for a 3100 sq ft home in mcol area. I think it's well worth it but I'm looking to change companies. They keep breaking things and last time I came home to the master bdrm jacuzzi tub running and they were gone. Thank goodness it didn't overflow!
  • Wow to pp with the running tub, that is pretty bad on top of the breaking things.

We have every other week and pay $125 and $150 every other time, on the higher time they supposedly do a 'deeper' clean that involves blinds and baseboards, etc. I'm not entirely sure that actually happens, but...  we live in a MCOL area, it takes a team of 4 around 1.5 hrs to clean the house.

I pay a lady and her son $80-100 as needed. My house is less than 1000 sq. feet.  I live in the SF area and this is very reasonable here.  $80 gets me basic dusting, floor cleanings, and dishes. $100 for additional scrubbing of  kitchen/bathroom floors and getting rid of cobwebs.

  • We life in fairly low COL area.  We pay her $75 every 2 weeks.  We have a large house, but she doesn't clean it all.  She does our floors, 4 bathrooms, and kitchen.  It takes her about 4 hours.

I absolutely LOVE having someone clean for me.  Even if you could only afford it once a month, it would totally be worth it to me!

  • I found another place I think I'll get a quote from. I wouldn't mind paying that amount if that's what the going rate was around here, but I don't think it is.

I'm looking forward to having someone coming in. I should've done it a long time ago, but I was being stubborn. Now with a baby, I'm much more serious about it.

  • HCOL area, we pay $95 every two weeks for a 2100 square foot house.  Another service we used was $85 every two weeks.

  • I would get more quotes because they do vary.  But rather than going to once a month, if I needed to cut back I would keep it at every other week but ask them to do just the things I hate doing (i.e., bathrooms and floors) and cut out some stuff like dusting that I can probably get to here and there on my own.

For reference, we pay $125 every other week for a 4 bed, 3 bath house in a HCOL area.  (When we got quotes the # of rooms, especially bathrooms, was more important than square feet).

  • That's a good idea @aglenn. I called another place today and already like this person better just through our phone conversation (it's a 3-4 person company). She's coming Wednesday for a walk through, so I'm hoping they're cheaper, too!

  • We pay $70 per week for a lady to come. She does laundry, floors, dust, clean everything, etc. It's about 1000sft she cleans.

  • We pay $130 once a month for a 2500 sq. foot house. We've only had them come twice so far and it's been OK, not great. I'd love for them to come every 2 weeks, but I'm fine with touching up in between.

  • We do once  a month because more frequent just doesn't work with the budget. It's nice to have a full clean once a month. We do quick wipe downs of stuff in between but no deep scrubbing.

  • I'll chime in as we have our house cleaned every 3 weeks.  It's 2500 square feet and while I vaccuum in between, I don't clean bathrooms, dust, clean cobwebs, windowsills or anything like that. We pay $85 every 3 weeks in a MCOL city and it works well for us. It's a nice compromise between biweekly and monthly so we save a bit of money and still don't have to do the cleaning that I hate (looking at you, toilets). It's a woman with her own business and a few people helping her, so usually 2-3 people at a time so they get in and out pretty quick.

  • Hooray! Someone from the other company came today and I had a WAY better feeling about them than the other place, plus they're only going to charge $85 for the first few visits, then probably drop to a consistent $75 every 2wks. I'm so relieved! Thank you all for the input and prices, it definitely gave me a little perspective and helped confirm the fact that the other place was charging too much.

  • We use an individual who come once a month.  She charges $100 to clean our 1200 sq. foot house.  I live in a HCOLA and I think this is a good price.  She cleans for about 4 hours.
