I think Allegra is too strong to take. I took Zyrtec throughout the first and now again for the 2nd. It doesn't work as well for me as Allegra, but just one of the many sacrifices!
I took Zyrtec for my allergies, but my OB said to take Claritin instead. ?Strangely enough, I haven't had to take anything in about 2 weeks. ?It's like my allergies all went away. ?Strange.
You can look at the paperwork that comes with the drug and see which pregnancy category it is. You can also find it online, usually on the product's web site. I was taking Zyrtec every day before getting PG, and my allergist told me to continue take it, as needed. It's a category B. Another Dr. told me the older drugs like Benadryl are safer in general because they have been around longer, and more people have taken them while PG and been fine.
I'm also taking rhinocort aqua, which is a nasal med. My allergist said the nasal meds are less likely to get to the baby b/c they don't go directly to your bloodstream like pills do. You might want to ask your Dr. about that as well.
I take Zyrtec every day. I have to or else my skin itches like crazy. Check out www.safefetus.com -- it will tell you what class Allegra is. Class A is fine for pregnancy. Zyrtec is Class B.

I would kill for some Zyrtec right now!!! My OB told me Claritin only...which does absolutely nothing, and my life has been miserable for the last 3 days...I seriously came home from work today, crawled into bed and died for 3 hours...about ready to do it again in a little while...
