I've been invited to a shower next month for one of my husband's long time friends. She has registered for a jumbo pack of newborn sized diapers. I have a 20-pack of newborn diapers in the same brand and I was wondering if it would be tacky to give them to her? They are unopened, but it's not exactly what she registered for, so I don't know if people will side-eye it.
Also, I do have some loose newborn diapers from an opened pack and I'm not sure what to do with those. I've seen where people will write notes on the diapers and give those as a gift, but what does everyone think of that idea?
I will be getting her something else besides giving her our excess diapers. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be frowned upon, like "Oh, she just had a baby and now she's passing on her leftover crap to me/pregnant friend."
Re: Question about gifts for a friend's shower
I accepted all diapers from anyone. I even had a friend that has a DD about 9 months older than my LO send me a box with exactly what you are describing-- loose diapers in newborn size. I was thrilled.
I realize not everyone would have the same reaction, so I would only gift the loose diapers if you could predict her reaction.
I would absolutely gift the 20 pack of unopened diapers to her without question.

I probably would not "gift" just plain loose diapers at the shower if you don't do anything crafty with them, just pass them along as hand-me-downs at another time when nobody is watching them be opened. I had a friend who handed down half a pack of loose diapers and a friend who gave me 1 loose diaper, unopened formula samples, and a couple containers of baby food that her baby ended up not liking the flavor of that were not expired, and I was grateful for all of it.
