WHY ME, WHY NOW?! RANT VENT AHHHHHH (NBR)

I AM SO PISSED AND SO FRUSTRATED I JUST WANT TO SCREAM CRY AND HIT THINGS AND THROW THINGS!!!

Right before I had the baby (actually December 16th, the day I got sent to the hospital), one of my employees no call no showed. I wasn't too upset because I still had 3 employees (one of which only works once a week, so basically 2 employees).

Right after I had the baby, on my first day back to the store (at about 1.5 weeks PP), another one of my employees quit.

Now at 3 weeks after the baby, and I'm back somewhat full time, although I wasn't planning on it, my last employee quit (except the one that works once a week).

We have a resale/consignment store. The job isn't very hard, most of the time it's slower, but gets busier toward the end of the week. We don't make anyone slave over anything. We're relatively laid back... All we ask is that they keep busy, and don't sit on their cell phones the whole time. We allow cell usage, smoke breaks, require a 1/2 hour break for days that they are here 6+ hours. We pay a little above minimum wage, and the job isn't difficult...  Sometimes we even buy lunch, and we also provide bottled water and usually candy. They just need to price things, take in consignments, smile at customers, ring things up and keep things tidy... We don't even require any sort of deep cleaning or anything like that... Seriously WTF?!?!?! I wish I had jobs like this.

Thank you for reading. Sorry for the vent. I seriously just feel like Ariella won't know who I am because I only get to spend a couple of hours with her a day now. I am just so sad.

That sucks. I'm so sorry. Do you think you'll be able to hire new help quickly?

I've been looking for people for the past week or so already. As soon as the last one quit, I put another add on craigslist.

I interviewed 2 people yesterday, like them both. One of them then informed me that he is only available Saturdays after saying he was available during the week, which doesn't work for us at this time, and the second hasn't responded to me.

I interviewed another one today, and she'll hopefully be back tomorrow, and I'm hoping she does ok... 

I have another 2 or 3 interviews tomorrow.

I really need to find 3-4 people ASAP and train them all :-(

Brutal not a stress you needed right now I'm sure. I wonder what's spurred them all on to quit.

That sucks! I'm surprised craigslist hasn't yielded more results. I would repost it there at least once per week. Also maybe put it out there on your personal social media. I know I always have at least one or two people on my friends list looking for extra cash, or maybe a friend of a friend would be interested? Hope it gets better for you.

That sucks. That sounds like a pretty slack retail job compared to the large chain stores I have worked for and they all start out at minimum wage. I was a manager at a big chain store before sah with the kids, I expected a lot more than that and have written people up for cell phones. You definitely aren't expecting too much. I hope you find replacements soon, having to go back to work so soon must be hard. Take care of yourself and don't push yourself too hard.

I post it on my store's FB page usually as well. I'm just really iffy on having people I know working for me. The one that works once a week is actually one of my best friends, and if something were to not be right, I'd feel bad saying anything or firing her. I hired her kind of as a favor because she just needed a little extra cash once a week, and I needed someone at that time to only work that day... Now my needs are changing and she doesn't want to really work any more days, which isn't helping me either.

I'm trying to figure out what spurred everyone to quit too. I swear we aren't being hard on anyone! This is really brutal :-(

As a fellow business owner, I can totally empathize! Keeping good employees is absolutely the hardest and most frustrating part of running a business...and I can't imagine dealing with all that so soon after your LO arrived. Sending positive vibes that you find some good people soon!

Holy guacamole I wish you were in long beach ca I would so love that job!!!! Some people don't realize a great job when they have one. Good luck finding reliable employees

Thank you all for the support. I think the most frustrating thing is that I feel like my baby won't know who I am because now I really have to go back to living at the store :-(

Wow. I wish I were in your area. I've worked retail and they had it easy. You sound like a good business owner, I'm sure you'll find someone who's willing to put forth an effort. Good luck!

Ugh! That is frustrating! I owned a bridal shop but closed down right before I had DS (brides are crazy!). It was difficult to find and keep quality people. And I totally agree about it being hard to work with friends and family. I had my mom and my best friend working for me and it was definitely starting to effect our relationship.

I hope you're able to find some new employees quick. GL!
