Bleeding at 6 weeks

I'm 5w6d and started bleeding with light cramping. I spent 6 hour in the ER, they did blood work, and external ultrasound, and a pelvic exam. The Dr said my hgc levels were still high but because of the bleeding and they couldn't find a heartbeat on the ultrasound it appears an abortion is happening. He wanted to give me rhogam because I'm rh negative (he didnt believe me when i said i got it during my first pregnancy) and told me to come back in 2 days to check and make sure my hgc levels are dropping. The longer I had to sit in the waiting room the more upset I got and had time to think about how early it was for an external ultrasound and the fact that the Dr isn't an OB. I ended up just leaving without the shot. Do I just sit and wait to miscarry at home? Could the fetus still be alive and well? This is nervewracking!

I would def. call your OB. 5W6D is pretty early to see a heartbeat, as well as have an external ultrasound. If I were you I would have done the same thing - left without treatement - and then called my OB right away.

That's absolutely ridiculous. There may be no heartbeat detectable until as late as 7 wks, and external ultrasounds aren't appropriate until 9-10 weeks at the earliest. You need repeat vaginal ultrasounds by someone who knows what they are doing. Hcg is not determinative at this stage of pregnancy- only t/v ultrasound by an expert practitioner, which this guy is clearly not. Run, don't walk.

Had a TV ultrasound by an OB today. Measuring at 5w2d so no heartbeat yet, but they are seeing what you would expect to see that far along. The problem is a large subcutaneous bleed to the side of the uterus. May still lose the pregnancy but its too soon to tell.
