1st Trimester

Ultrasound found a heartbeat but bleeding so heavy. Scared and confused.

I started bleeding yesterday and it got pretty heavy then stopped. It started up again today so I headed to the ER. The bleeding wasn't stopping but it wasn't getting worse either. They did a transvaginal ultrasound and I was SO relieved when they told me that there was a heartbeat and baby was right where he/she should be. However I went in for the pelvic exam right after that and I started bleeding a lot more. He said the cervix was still closed but that there was more blood than he would like to see. It's so confusing because they said once they see a heartbeat the chance of a m/c goes down to 1/200 but they seemed pretty concerned about the amount of blood. Still no clotting, tissue or cramping but I was told to come back if any of that starts happening. I am beyond confused. I know people can bleed pretty heavily and still be ok...anyone have a similar experience? Could the bleeding get heavier just from the ultrasound?

  • I had this at 6 weeks along with terrible cramps... they told me it was a "threatened miscarriage" and to come back in a couple days to check my levels... my bleeding stopped that night and I'm now 17 weeks... So there's definitely hope!! Just try to relax and not stress yourself out (I know, that's easier said than done). All you can do is wait and see what happens. Good luck!!!!!

  • Any time you have an issue before 20 weeks it is called a threatened miscarriage. (According to the documents I received from the ER) I had this happen at 10 weeks. Everything was ok but I did bleed heavier after the pelvic exam and the vaginal ultrasound. I would just keep an eye on everything and follow up with your OB/Midwife.

It just causes stress for us mamas! I had one with DD- same story. Headed tomER, was told there was a hb but that I was losing my baby. Two E r visits later, the SCH was found. It resolved itself by 20 weeks after I was placed on bed rest. Drink a TON of water and relax. Hoping your story is similar to mine, it certainly sounds like it. Fwiw, DD is a beautiful, healthy little girl today and was born right on time with absolutely no complication is or issues!
