Nursery Probz......

I feel like an indecisive teenager. We are suppose to be painting and decorating this weekend. I have furniture....I cannot decide on ANYTHING else. I mean nothing.

I can't even decide on a paint color. I can't pick out the bedding. I go back and forth all the time.....

Are any of  you having this problem? Why do you think that is?

I've had 2 little boys.....if this baby were a boy, I would be completely decisive. HALP!!!!

Re: Nursery Probz......

  • Do you have the bedding narrowed down to a couple selections? Maybe you could get paint samples of those colors and paint a patch in the room to see how it looks.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.

I was, but then I just forced myself to start and go with it. I am not a big Pinterest-er, but I started a board and it really helped me focus my thoughts and get some ideas (especially colorwise). Also, it's been helping to remind myself that it's not a big deal overall (ie airplanes vs animals vs hot air balloons don't matter), and what I actually want the nursery to be is a lovely, soothing place that we get to hang out with our baby boy and be cozy.

  • Yeah I'm not doing a nursery, but i have a million ideas if I were doing one.  But baby will be with us until at least 8 months...and then I'll decorate a room for her.  I did a nursery for Asher and he ever slept in it.  Then when we finally put him in his own room he loved things like Thomas and the room didn't fit him anymore.

What you really need to do is find bedding and go from there.  I fell in love with this set from PBK.  Love it.  My sister is getting it for me....cannot wait to get my hands on it.

  • I was the same way - had no idea what direction I wanted to go. Then I ran across this on Amazon and ordered it. So now, I think I'll go pretty basic with orange/navy accents and call it a day.

Maybe find one piece you really like (whether it be bedding, a piece of art, etc...) and go from there.

  • I am having the same problem and haven't even picked my furniture. I am so indecisive. This is my first baby and I just want the nursery to be perfect and I can't decide what to do or buy. I am actually really annoying myself.

I'm hoping my husband will be able to sway me on the things that he likes.

Can you get some opinions from family or your husband?
  • With DD1, I couldn't decide on a theme or specific colors for her nursery. I would randomly buy things that tickled my fancy, in all sorts of colors and what not. The end result was beautiful, one of a kind, and not tacky at all. I really loved her nursery actually, and i hope little big man's nursery will have the same result. (not that this helped! sorry!)

I think that's how I'm going to be with this baby. I've always been kind of hodge podge when it comes to decorating, and I realized that with a baby's room, that will be just fine and could be really cute.

  • I would suggest putting a neutral color on the walls, so you can easily change your mind later if you want. I painted the walls a light tan and then got a can of paint that matches the green in the bedding. I thought about painting a stripe around the room, but started second guessing myself, so for now I just painted the inside of the closet green, and maybe I'll decide on something else later on.

  • Maybe search Pinterest for inspiration- I agree on keeping walls neutral and have fun with bedding or accents

I tend to pick out art first when I am decorating. I'm also not one for overtly themed nurseries with multi piece coordinating bedding sets, etc.

For DDs nursery I picked out a piece of art, then chose a coordinating neutral wall color (grey). We only bought crib sheets for bedding and then just matched accessories/accents as we found them. I wanted her room to grow with her so nothing is explicitly babyish.

I'm taking the same approach this time except that the walls are already painted an pretty off white color that we are keeping. I found art and am building around it.

  • I'm not having this problem with the nursery but I am with the travel system! Just when I think I've decided I start second guessing myself. I have to be driving DH crazy.

I was the exact same way. I knew I wanted the Chicco Cortina with the KeyFit 30 but I hated all the colors. I was looking at target and amazon where my registries are but anything gender neutral I hated and I didn't want to go pink in case we have a boy later. I finally realized that other stores carry it in other colors like BRU and Buy Buy Baby. I'm so glad I looked bc I found the perfect color at BBB.
  • @ABColeslaw  that bedding is gorgeous!!!! So pretty!!!!

Just an FZI the Chicco Cortina is not a great stroller. Not sure how much you've tried it out, but we found it to be heavy and clunky and also not durable. Got rid of it after a year and bought a used Mamas and Papas Sola instead, much happier. Just wanted to warn you.
  • Here are some ideas...I dont know your style, but maybe if you start with two, and pick one you like over the other, then add one, and choose between the two?  You will eventually end up with something you love.  I am painting our room a neutral color and will be adding hanging art, so that it's not having to be repainted before we move ( we are moving a few months after baby comes) The first style is my favorite, but I wouldn't paint walls pink.
