Walking post csection?

edited January 2014 in December 2013 Moms
When are we allowed to do light exercise like walking around the mall or a treadmill for 10-20 mins at a time? Does they have to wait for the 6 week checkup? Sitting around non stop is driving me bonkers. And I have around 25 lbs to lose still fun fun. I know the least of my worries. But it sucks because I can't fit into any of my clothes other then maternity clothes.

Re: Walking post csection?

  • Walking is good. Just listen to your body. Don't walk at a high speed or up and down stairs, just casually walk.

  • We walked to and from DS's school yesterday which is a little over a mile round trip. It was a beautiful day and it felt good to be moving. You should be fine as long as you listen to your body and don't overdue it.

  • I didn't have a c section and have already lost all my pregnancy weight, but can still only fit into maternity pants. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but hopefully it makes you feel better as far as clothing goes. You have to remember, it took 9 months to get up to your pregnancy weight, and it often times will take that or more to get back down to pre-pregnancy shape and size. Just some food for thought. :)

  • Lucky ladies that lost your weight. I feel like such a fat ass!
  • walking's fine. just listen to your body. I walked all the time after my c/s with DS and with DD1. I'm trying to walk as much as I can now but our weather sucks. ButI often go for walks wearing DD2 and it hasn't bothered me.

I did have a c section and have lost my pregnancy weight (and then some!) but still can't wear pre-pregnancy clothes... How does that work?!?!

  • 1 week out I just about died after walking half way through Walmart...too much too soon! I'm now 3 weeks, nearing 4 weeks post C/S and I can go on short walks w. the stroller now, about 3/4 to 1 mile...
  • My OB told me to listen to my body.

During the first couple of weeks while I was still bleeding, I would see an increase in the flow if I over-exerted.

Now, at almost 5 weeks PP, I've walked all over the place.  I spent a couple of hours wandering around the mall on a few occasions, and when the weather is nice (well, as nice as it can be in Southern Ontario in the winter) I get out, even just to walk around the block.
