I am using DoTerra OnGuard essential oil. This is the 3rd cold I have had since being pregnant, so I am trying really hard to not take anymore OTC meds. I just put a few drops in the bath and soak for awhile. It smells great and REALLY helps my breathing. I run a humidifier with a few drops of eucalyptus in it at night and that helps me sleep. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
I tried the neti pot for the first time about a month ago and was thrilled! It allowed me to breathe again! Not so sexy but highly recommend! Oh and those nose strips! Big help.
I'm sick with some serious congestion and a head cold too (going on 4 days now). I live for my netti pot and saline rinses and second eme with the shower. Humidifier, Vicks, lots and lots of water and rest.
My OB told me if things were really bad I could take 1 regular Sudafed and regular Tylenol for the congestion pain. I'm trying to just rest and do all of the above and I'm finally feeling a tiny bit better today. It's good to remember that they say it takes 3 days to develop a cold, 3 days to have it and 3 days to get rid of it. Hope you feel better soon!

I am down with a cold too: sore throat, cough, and some really minor achy muscles (no temp, phew!). I'm doing lots of rest, hot tea, honey, and steam. Feel better!
Also, I really like making this tea when I have a cold. Helps with congestion and sore throat:
Honey Lemon Ginger Tea (1 mug)
1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp honey
Put ginger in a small bowl and pour 1 cup boiling water over it. Allow it to steep for 5 minutes. Strain into a mug and add in lemon juice and honey. Add more honey, to taste, if needed.
Yea, saline spray has helped me a tiny bit. I swear by honey though when I have a sore throat. I don't hesitate to take tylenol before bed though. I need to not ache so I can sleep and get some rest!!
