Cold weather car rides

DD does not wear her puffy Patagonia coat in the car for safety reasons.  So, most car rides she wears a light sweater or sweatshirt, a hat, and we put a blanket over her.  However, she removes the hat and blanket immediately.

I don't mind this on milder days, but this morning on the way to daycare, for example, it was 6 degrees.  Six!  And my car takes like 15 minutes to warm up, so it's usually pretty chilly on the drive.

Any tips or products to get her to keep her warm gear on in the car seat?

I've seen these nifty car seat ponchos on the car seat safety facebook group, you could probably find them on etsy.

DS wears a hat and fleece and I throw a blanket over him, but he does the same and throws off the blanket as soon as I shut the door.  On days like this, I start the car with plenty of time for it to be nice and toasty.

We start the car in the garage to warm it up before going anywhere, but that only works if you aren't out and about. C wears a fleece or sweater with hat and a blanket, but she usually kicks the blanket off. I found some really cute car seat ponchos on etsy this week that are safe because they sit above the straps, so I plan on ordering one. There's also some tutorials if you're crafty and want to make your own. It's been -10 below during the day all week, which is -30+ with the windchill so we haven't even even able to leave the house!

I normally tuck the afghan down under her legs so and then throw her winter jacket over top of the afghan with the hood towards her face. she has fun playing peek-a-boo for a while and by that time the car is warmed up enough I don't feel as bad that she uncovers herself.
