Etsy for digital invites?

Has anyone used etsy for digital invites that you print yourself? I have a friend who owns a print shop so I would have them printed professionally. It seems like $12.00 for the file and $.60 an invite is a great deal but not if it looks, for lack of a better term, cheap. Thanks!

I'm a graphic designer so I've never purchased invites from etsy (I make my own and print them myself), but have friends who have. The digital file that you are buying should be a high-resolution file that will print just fine, especially if professionally printed. People usually run into issues when printing on crummier home printers and lesser quality paper. As a designer professionally, I can assure you that files for billboards, ads, magazines, etc. are all printed digitally nowadays. Very little if offset printed with real ink and plates because of the cost factor and how far digital printers have come. It should be fine!

  • Yes! I used a designer on Etsy for our wedding invitations and had them printed through CatPrint, so I could choose the type of cardstock (I used linen). It was easy and the designer went through several free revisions until we had exactly what we were looking for! A big money saver was having multiple pages printed per sheets. I think we fit 2 invitations per sheet and 4 response cards.
  • I've done it before, male sure you choose a seller with good reviews and don't forget to factor in the time and cost of finding matching envelopes!

  • This is how my shower invites were done. Paid $8 for the design on etsy, had them printed at offlice max for 60 (two/four?) cents a sheet and there were two invites per sheet. They (printer) sliced them down the middle and my sis chose ivory envelopes. They came out great.

  • i would say the design of the image is really just what it appears to be.  that's pretty straightforward.  i'm assuming most/all digital file designers on etsy are sending the file in a big enough format that it will print well.  i wouldn't know the specifics of what's best, though, since that's not my thing.

i WILL say...  the place you choose to use for prints will make 90% of the difference.  whatever you do, don't go to staples/office max/target/walmart/drugstore for prints.  just don't!!

get them professionally printed at a local place (which will likely be faster but cost way more) or through a place like mpix.com, which will probably take 1-2 weeks from order to delivery, but will be a much cheaper option with a noticeably higher quality result.

my brother just got married this year and his wife's bridal shower invitations were sent this way...  digital file on etsy and printed by the bridesmaids.  they chose a cheap box store and had the image printed on glossy photo paper, so it wasn't a really high class final result... but it worked.  printing on a cardstock or with various finishes will give the final product a different, classier result.
  • Thanks all!! My friend does great printing and I will have paper options too so this makes me feel like its a safe option. Envelopes!!! I need to get the size figured out before I even order I think. Good idea @homediva!! I appreciate all your responses :-)

  • We did this for my shower invites!  I helped my mom order the digital print off etsy ($10) and we used vistaprint for the printing.  They came out great! :)

  • I got great shower invites for a friend for a $10 design and had them printed at Costco. They looked great and were a lot cheaper than ones you can order online from stationary companies.
