Disappearing work ethic

I feel like when I'm pregnant I loose my work ethic. The physical symtoms the mood swings make me so crabby. I just want to be the nice, caring, hard worker I used to be. Do you ladies have any suggestions on how to step up my game? Right now I feel like a pathetic baby who can't handle working.

Re: Disappearing work ethic

  • Hey, you're my hero for reporting someplace each day so don't be too hard on yourself. I hide behind a computer for work (from home) and am scared of what would happen if that were not the case! ;)

  • Ugh story of my life. I have to set little goals for myself just to get ANY work done. Like ok...process this stack of work and you can eat that pile of gummy bears. It's ridiculous.

  • Same story here with #2. As my old boss put it, your priorities are someplace else. I've committed to getting through the next 5 months as not to disrupt my maternity benefits; but I am not going to think about that place for my entire leave!

  • Today was my first day back after being off since the 20th (12 days off). I got pretty much nothing done and couldn't focus. So I did some online shopping.

I'm really wanting my work ethic to come back  - am still on probation at the new job and really want to endear myself before spilling the beans.

I find getting started the hardest part so I typically set a timer, or use music as a timer, and say I will work for 3 songs, then can have a snack/check twitter/fb etc. Typically once I get started things go decently.

I also have a refreshing facial mist (from sephora) that can help wake me up. It seems to help a bit thus far.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one. I feel like I've went from a super hard worker always meeting my deadlines to severely slacking. No ones made any comments but yes my priorities are elsewhere. :) I sometimes wish I could just not work at all and stay home and prepare for baby, but I know we need my paycheck now and also when I'm out on leave.

Here's hoping the motivation returns once I return from maternity leave later in the year. Lol

  • Yup, me too. No motivation whatsoever
  • They are called the "Fuck-its" and they are infintely worse when you are leaving your current job, home and country in 3.5 months - never to return. DH and I both have a HORRIFIC case of the Fuck-its. No known cure.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.
