SON OF AN ITCH!

Good Lord, I did not sleep a wink last night from scratching all over! I was miserable. Arrrrgh! I literally bathed myself in Aveeno lotion and cried myself to sleep, since of course I consulted Dr. Google and saw it could be Cholestasis! WTF (although later DH showed me that it involves other symptoms, such as persistent itching (not just one night), itching on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, as well as fevers, pale bowel movements, etc. So, we'll see. If it becomes incessant, I'll have to give my doctor a call.

I'm assuming it's a mix of hormones, the cold, the heater being on continuously, and growing. Anyone else have crazy itching at night? It ranged from the belly, breasts, sides, thighs, neck, and even the scalp at times!

Re: SON OF AN ITCH!

  • I do! My doc said the dry air could be to blame (obv), so he said to run a humidifier and hydrate (he said 100oz). Honestly, since I've been doing both if these things, I'm not as itchy.

  • The humidifier helps! You can get a decent one for like $20 and it is great for combating the dryness that having the heat on can cause. I tend to feel itchiest mid-day, when my initial lotion application has worn off, and before I can slather on more for round two.

  • I was itching like crazy for a week and my aunt suggest baby oil. Put in on where ever your itching and let it set for a minute then rinse the extra off and then I use coco butter when I get out and I haven't itched since then.
  • My friend gave me this coco butter from Trader Joes (I don't know if you have one near you...) but it is amazing! It is the only thing that takes me itch away and it doesn't smell like coco butter, I personally can't stand that smell.

  • I love using coconut oil on my body! It is all natural and helps immensely.  Also, I agree with putting a humidifier in your bedroom...I couldn't survive without mine!

  • I had terrible itching for 1 week during the first trimester. It was mostly hands and feet, with no dry skin and no redness/rash. Lotion was useless. Hydrocortisone helped marginally. I didn't sleep for 2 days straight. Dr Google had me convinced I had cholestasis. But the day I was going to call the Ob about it, it all went away.

  • I get this at night. I have to take an antihistamine for it.

  • Try putting a warm wash cloth on the area. Several years back I had a terrible allergic reaction to shell fish and my doctor recommended a hot bath or wash cloths and they really help me. I have also bought an oil based body most from Pure Romance that has worked wonders.
Everyone is different so it may not work for you. In my instance- it has been a tremendous help!
  • I get dry and itchy every winter from the cold and heat but it's been so much worse now.  I agree with the humidifier and cocoa butter or any sort of heavy lotion- aveeno's oatmeal lotion is really good.  Plus don't take really hot or long showers.  This will dry your skin even more.
