missed period. positive hpt after time limit

My last period started on November 12th, 2013. My cycle is usually 30-33 days. I'm a little over 2 weeks late now. Took a pregnancy test the other day and didn't wait the whole 10 minutes before throwing it away. It said negative at that time. I looked at it later that day and it said positive. The positive result disappeared after a couple days. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

  • I agree with PP. It isn't good to go by the test after the time limit. Test again now or wait a week and test then.
When H and I were living with my mom about 2 years ago she found a test in the trash that was a few days old. It was positive even though the test came up negative for me. She was freaking out. I took another to prove it to her.

  • If you aren't temping and charting you don't know if you are actually "late". You could have ovulated later than normal, which would make your period come later than it usually would. I know you say your cycles are usually 30-33 days but things happen. Stress can delay ovulation.

The reason that they say to look at a test during a certain window of time is because evaporation lines can appear. Those pesky little things can make a negative look like a positive. Test weekly (or more often if you'd like but that can get expensive) until you get a positive or your period comes.

In the mean time, sign up for Fertility Friend and start temping/charting. You will learn a crap ton about how your body works and hopefully you won't get as stressed in the future.

  • Evaporation lines aren't colored. That's an overused term.

    Right. You're pregnant. Totes.

  • Why are you being rude?

No one actually answered I asked. Which was "Has anyone else ever had this happen?"

LMFAO that you flagged my post. GL with that.

LOTS of people have it happen because it's an evap line and they cannot follow directions. Follow PP's advice and take another test. Not sure what else you want us to tell you.

Yes.  Lots of people have had this happen but did not freak out because they read the directions and knew the result was inaccurate.

This. It's not an uncommon event.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's a post about it every week or so on the Trying to Get Pregnant board.
