Stash question-NB pockets or fitteds?

So I'that m trying to make a list of aaallllll the things I need to get before LO arrives and naturally my first priority is my CD stash. What I've gathered from you guys is that a varied stash is good, especially in the beginning, that and I always need more diapers (sheesh...enablers).

So. Here is what I have and plan (marked**) to get for my NB/transitional stash:
24 each orange/yellow GMD PF
**6 small GMD flats
**? GMD workhorses (orange and/or yellow)
** ? Kawaii pockets (P&N or LGB?)

Which is better-pockets or fitteds-I'm thinking some of each-and how many of each would be good to have? Which is a better investment?

2 Rumparoo NB covers aplix
1 Thirstise duo sz 1 cover
**4 Thirsties sz 1 w new aplix

**maybe one more rumparoo NB-bc I want the plaid Will that be enough covers? I have about 4 doz flannel wipes, snappis and plan to get wetbags/pail liners. Edit: hit post too soon

Re: Stash question-NB pockets or fitteds?

  • I love the GMD workhorses. They contain poo really well and are super easy to put on in the MOTN. That being said the Kawaii P&Ns are probably more versatile. They go up to 18 pounds or so wheras NB workhorses only go up to around 10 pounds. Smalls woulndnt fit right away and then only go up to like 15 pounds.

Definitely P&Ns over LGBs. I don't hear very good things about the LGBs.

I personally would get maybe 3-4 fitteds for MOTN changes and 4-6 P&Ns to use for babysitters, trips out of the house, and to fill in your stash when baby isn't in OS diapers yet.

I would say aim for 6-8 covers. So what you have listed sounds good.

  • Where is the best place to buy the P&N's? Seems like prices vary a lot on different websites.
  • Loading the player...
  • I think the best price is through Kawaii (theluvyourbaby.com) but their shipping is pretty slow. I've never order from them, but several moms on here recommend www.superstash.net. I guess she's pretty quick shipping wise and reasonable in pricing.

  • I second superstash.net - awesome service and good prices!  And she sends free samples :)
  • I love my prefolds right now.

I actually have 6 pure and naturals and I have not gotten them to work. I don't thing the fit is right at this point. And we're at the 5 week mark.

So I would actually opt for the workhorses over the pockets.

  • We use a mix of AIOs and pockets during the day but love fitteds at night.  We have 6 prefolds that I try occassionally but my husband doesn't like them.  Our little one is a month old and hates having his diaper changed so we like having a one step option for most changes.  However, we have 6 imagine fitteds that we love for nights.  We have a great sleeper who goes stretches of 4-6 hours at night and the fitteds hold so much.

We've just started working the P&N in because they were too big for the first few weeks.
  • I vote fitteds over pockets. I think there are better odds that you will be able to use the fitteds sooner rather than later.  But if you have room in your budget, why not get a few of each?
  • I would get some of both if your budget allows. Fitteds are awesome for containing runny newborn poo, but the P&Ns are also great because they fit for much longer than traditional newborn diapers.

Aim for about 6 covers - the RaRs and Duo size 1s are both good choices.

  • Apparently there's a run on the Pure and Naturals because both the sites y'all mention have nothing available! So sad :-( Maybe there was a sale...
  • I think I'll get some workhorses and a couple P&Ns if I can find them. Do you guys like the workhorses with or without snaps? About how long did the orange fit?
  • This content has been removed.
  • We used newborn for a brief stint because LO was 9lbs at birth. We transitioned into the P&Ns after a month because she outgrew most the newborn PF and workhorses. Our P&Ns have snaps and they are working great for over night. She sleeps about 6-7 hours a night.

I could only find aplix P&Ns. I went through the luvyourbaby site and shipping time wasn't bad. They have a pretty sweet earth day sale if you can wait a bit--I see you're still pregnant. I had a small baby (6lb 13oz) and they did fit her from birth, though we had to twist the tabs to fit Skinny Mini's waist the first week.
