Trouble TTC

First RE visit update

edited December 2013 in Trouble TTC

DH and I had our first visit with our RE today.  They suspect PCOS and confirmed what DH's urologist said, IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection is our best chance to TTC and projected a 75% success rate.  It was a lot of information to take in and I am kind of disappointed that they didn’t see IUI as a good choice for us (projected 4-5% success rate).

DH has had 2 SAs in the past two months, one with morphology at 2% and another at 3%.  I see that a lot of ladies on this board with husbands with similar numbers are trying IUI (with some success) and had hoped that would have been an option for us.  I’m also not sure that we are ready, emotionally or financially, to proceed with IVF and am feeling pretty down about the whole thing.

I’m having lots of lab work done tomorrow and calling my insurance company to figure out what (if anything) might be covered by insurance. I’m also thinking about scheduling my second appointment with another doctor in the same practice to see if they are of the same opinion as the doctor we met with today.

I know that many posters on this board are in similar situations, but this really sucks.  Pity party for one today. :(

  • ((Hugs)) a second opinion might make you feel better but if they are in the same practice they might just agree with each other, if you want an iui ask for one, ask what things you could add on to the iui to make your chances more sucessful, supplements, shots ect. I'm sorry you're at this crossroad, I know a lot of ppl set up a fundraiser for Ivf, maybe that's something you could try? I hope you feel better! ((Hugs))

  • I'm so so sorry :( great big hugs to you and I would seriously think of a second opinion. I've heard crazy awesome success stories from women who went for 2nd opinions. Either way, it's totally ok to have a pity party. Hugs!

I asked for u/s and other tests to see why we weren't getting pregnant, doc just kept giving me meds and telling me to go to his church for a "laying of hands") Stopped all monitoring/testing/temps, etc, Sex became a chore and we started to grow apart. At 12 mos I decided to look for another doc. 02/2013 consult with new doc....3 days later testing began...u/s, all good, HSG: all good, labs: all good, ovulating, etc. Started on Pregnitude. 04/2013 failed attempt for SA, 05/2013 failed attempt SA. 12/2013 SA: 3% morph, abnormal functionality.
