Parenting after a Loss

Berty.. or other vinegar users...

I am doing something wrong... I try to use vinegar as my fabric softner, but I obviously am doing it wrong.

How am I supposed to be doing it?.  (And treat me like I am 10 and need step by step instructions... lol.)

Re: Berty.. or other vinegar users...

  • why do you think you are doing something wrong?

we use 1/4-1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar (store brand is fine)

put said vinegar in either the liquid fabric softener dispenser in your washer (should be in the center stem or a cup on the side), OR if you don't have a fabric softener dispenser, you can put it in a Downy ball and throw in the washer with the clothes.

that way it adds the vinegar to the last rinse of the cycle, adding a little extra softness to the fabric.

caution: some of your clothes may smell a little like vinegar coming out of the wash, this is NORMAL and will go away when they dry (esp if you run them thru the dryer for a min).

  • 1.  Start the washer water filling.

    2.  Add the laundry detergent.

    3.  Put in the clothes.

    4.  Pour vinegar into the Downy Ball a little higher than the line (about 1/2 cup for a full load of laundry).

    5.  Close the Downy Ball.

    6.  Throw the Downy Ball in the washer with the clothes.

    7.  At the end of the washing cycle, throw my soft, detergent-build-up-free laundry into the dryer.

It's really super easy!  Just use 1/2 cup of vinegar the exact same way you were using the liquid fabric softener.  If you use it just as a substitute, you can't do it wrong!

  • AHHHH.....   I was just putting it right in.... it was getting used on the wrong cycle.

where can I purchase a downy ball?  I looked at Target, but couldn't find it in the detergent aisle.

  • I think I got mine at Meijer...a loooooooong time ago.  If you can't find it in an actual store (try calling around before going), you can buy them online.

  • You don't NEED a downy ball. You can pour it in as the water fills up on the last cycle.?

And since you've been using it during the 1st cycle, you can know that your clothes were being disinfected. ?
