Drinks best for dieting (alcohol)

A friend just lost a lot of weight by seeing a nutritionist and following her advice. One of the "rules" was to only drink "clear" alcohol (vodka, etc). I drink scotch :-(. What drinks (with alcohol) are best if I am watching my weight?

  • Vodka tonics with a lime twist all the way.

  • Or just shots.

    No mixers. Just do shots.

Eta just saw this has been covered. Even so, may I say shots, shots, shots, shot, shot, shots, shots!

  • I do flavored vodka and diet drinks. Cherry vodka+diet coke is how I got drunk a lot.

I have raspberry vodka and diet 7up waiting for me at home.

  • Well I mean all alcohols that have the same %alcohol have the same calories per volume right? I don't know what % scotch is but if it's the same as vodka then no need to switch. The thing with clear boozes is more that it usually means fewer impurities so you don't feel as crappy the next day. Or so they say. Calorie wise though, no diff between for example vodka and dark rum.

But use club soda or diet pop if you're concerned about calories. Or alternate every drink with a drink of water.

  • My mom actually switched from vodka to scotch and lost weight. So I don't know about this. But the smell of scotch makes me gag so maybe that's it.

I do regular vodka with soda water or flavored seltzer with a splash of cranberry juice (i usually get the ocean spray 50 calorie light cranberry juice).

  • When I'm trying to watch my calories with booze I do flavored vodka, soda and a little Crystal Light. Blueberry vodka and soda with CL lemonade is really good. I buy a box of the individual packets and tale them with me to the bar. Ain't no shame in my game. Mmm...vodka

  • Belvedere makes an awesome grapefruit vodka - I drink that with soda water and a lime if I am trying to cut back on (drinking) calories.

  • My favorites are: Raspberry vodka with diet 7-Up and a squeeze of lime, vanilla vodka with diet root-beer or diet Dr. Pepper, pear vodka with light cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime.
  • Another vote for flavored vodka and soda water. Or regular vodka soda with a lime. But usually I work at least a glass of wine into my daily calorie allowance, dry red.

    1.5 oz of Vodka = 4pts

My only issue with this is...who actually only drinks 4oz of wine as a serving? My usual "glass" of wine must be double this...but who's counting? Lol.

    Seriously.

When I started WW again in October I found myself measuring wine out in a shot glass and stopped and thought to myself "what has my life come to"

  • 4 oz of wine?! I can't even imagine something so horrific sounding

  • I read somewhere that champagne has the fewest calories among wines.
  • I'll limit myself to one large glass of wine but it needs to have an alcohol content of at least 13%.
