People these days......

What kind of a-hole has food brought into L&D triage (where there is three beds in one room) knowing A. You're not allowed to eat before they are done getting your results (which the nurse already told you before you had your husband sneak it in), and B. you're not the only pregnant woman here! I've been here for hours and have not eaten a thing and you're over there chowing down on fast food!

I'm about to go on a rampage.... So, if anyone see's anything on the news about a crazy pregnant lady fighting someone in the hospital for a cheeseburger, it's just me. :) Feel free to send bail money and cheeseburgers!!!! Lol.

  • She sucks. Hopefully she isn't sent home and the you can feel good in knowing she will be pooping all over the table. There are no secret meals if she is really in labor.

Meh, that doesn't seem like a big deal. To be honest. They tell everyone not to eat at my hospital's L&D, and sometimes it is extremely unnecessary.

True, I understand that. It was more the fact that she wasn't in a private room alone, and it was disrespectful. I can't eat because they may induce me, and have more tests to run still. Plus it's not like the nurse said they suggest for her not to, they told her no because she's on morphine and is having regular contractions.

Personally, I still don't think it is a big deal. I don't think it's disrespectful (although I might be jealous) and I also don't think it's a huge deal to eat under those circumstances if her body is telling her to eat. What if her labor lasts another 24 hours?

I know that a lot of people like to follow that rule about not eating during labor, but I am a big believer in doing what your body tells you to do. I have a story for you about this kind of thing. They told me after one of my urinary surgeries that I wouldn't have to pee for at least 2-3 hours -- I said no, I have to pee right now and they told me I was mistaken. I told the nurse that if she didn't take me to the bathroom I was going to pee on the floor, so she finally gave in. And I peed. A lot. She apologized profusely and said she was just doing what the doctor told her because he thought I wouldn't have to pee. Bottom line, sometimes your body knows better than doctors.

So true. I was induced with DD and told not to eat. Did I listen? Nope. I certainly wasn't eating fast food, but I did need to eat to have the energy to make it through laboring. I had DD about 60 hours after my induction started. No way would I have lasted that long if I had listened to them and only had juice and water. FTR, I did have a c/s and absolutely did not get sick, which was their main reason for not allowing food.

ETA  after getting an epidural I had to argue with the nurses several times. They swore that my bladder was empty and I was just feeling pressure from DD. They were wrong..

  • @MamaP19 did you say you had DD 60 hours after induction?! Wow.. I.. you're awesome.

OP, I would have flung something at her in my mind haha, but people gotta eat, when they gotta eat. She might have been there all day and needed something. It sucked that you had to share rooms with her when you were hungry too..

  • While it sucks that they ate in the same room as you and you weren't able to, I can understand like PPs have mentioned why she would have.

My midwife encourages eating small snacks/meals during labour to keep up strength.  No fast food, but thin soups, crackers, toast, etc.

The nurse ended up "nicely" tearing the husband a new one for sneaking in food without permission... Lol. And it got better from there!

The nurses quickly discharged her after about 2 and a half hours (she had gotten there the same time as me), because even though she discussed "trying" to put herself in labor for tax purposes while the nurses were out of the room (Yes, she really discussed this with her husband quite loudly) they realized that at 33 weeks she was not in labor at all and could go home. They also weren't too happy about the five kids running around the hospital. Lol.

Now I love kids, normally could care less, and would want a mother to have her kids with her when she is at the hospital for whatever reason if possible, but her kids were unruly, loud, and very badly behaved, so much so that the husband was told they could not stay in the room, but would need to wait with the patients other family member in the waiting room seperate from L&D until they determined if she was going to need to be moved out of triage and into a real room. I'm talking screaming, running down the halls, slamming doors, and trying to play with hospital equipment bad.

All in all it was pretty interesting and was sadly my only entertainment for the night.. Lol. LO is doing great, my BP had dropped quickly (100-120/40-60) causing my migraine, vision problems, nosebleed, and dizziness... Which was not fun, but could be worse considering it's usually high (150-160/90-100), so i was discharged finally, got spoiled with Chinese food and am now happily crawling into bed. Night ladies.:)

So I guess your concerns about her eating while having contractions were misplaced, then. As I suspected. I've been having regular, timeable contractions every day since Halloween. I'd never eat if I followed that logic!

On a separate topic, glad to hear everything is ok. But why did your BP drop so quickly?

They have no idea.... But since I'm already set to go in for my weekly appointment first thing tomorrow, and my OB is already planning to set my induction date for this week they decided that as long as it stayed at a "normal" 110-120/60 while I was laying down then I could go home and return if my symtoms got worse.

@RedSaffron  Sure did. They admitted me to l&d right after my last OB appt. It started with a foley bulb at 4pm and then Pitocin for the next two days. Unfortunately my body just refused to dilate until I got an epidural. So I made the large majority of progress in the last 6 hours but wasn't able to push her out. I could have saved myself a lot of time,  but I was very stubborn about wanting a pain-med free birth.
