I don't think so. I attended a baby shower this month and it was about a month and a half before her due date. It gives you some time to get more shopping done if there are items on your registry that you didn't get. And personally I think I might be a little nutty in the last few weeks with anxiety so I'd rather have the shower before that happens, lol.
I am currently 23 weeks, but my friend wants to start planning the baby shower in January. So we are trying to find a good time for everyone's schedule.
In early March (depending when we do the baby shower) I'll be at least 30 weeks.
I had my first shower when I was 30 weeks but I was on bed rest and miserable the entire time. I had a house full of people who brought me beautiful gifts that I couldn't even sit up to open them. I didn't have a shower with my second but my friends are throwing me a little "sprinkle" when I'm around 20 weeks this time. I typically start bed rest around 20-21 weeks so I'm hoping that I won't be on bed rest for this shower.
Mine is scheduled for 27-28 WGA since it is a plane ride away. We live pretty far from our families (we are in MT, they are in LA and GA). We are doing a local one with girlfriends closer to the due date.
Also, because of work, travel time, and the potential of traveling so close to my due date, I had to (respectfully) decline a shower that was to be held late in my third trimester, sometime around 37 WGA. I just don't feel safe traveling 7+ hours by plane then. Most people understand reasonable concerns :-).
We are going to have ours about 7 weeks before our due date. I look at it like this...I don't want to be uncomfortable, we would like to have a good amount of time to finish buying anything we didn't get/need and I really would like to have the shower before baby comes (heaven forbid baby comes early)!!

Mine is February 22 and I am due April 15th... I wanted it a little earlier so I could get everything put together, washed, and organized before baby. Just had a friend have a baby 3 weeks early so you never know!!
I think that sounds about right. It gives you a good amount of time to do shopping afterwards to get everything else you need and have everything set up and ready to go. We had DS at 36 weeks and still had to do stuff after so I'd recommend having everything pretty much ready to roll by a month prior.
I'll be doing mine in march and I'm not due until June. I think your fine. The reason I'm doing mine so early is because I'll be traveling for mine and we have so much going on that we could either do it in march or wait until the beginning of June. ( which is cutting it way to close)
I don't think it really matters when you have a shower. Everybody has different circumstances and thus needs to plan accordingly. I'm due April 4th and had my shower on November 23rd because I recently moved to a different country.
I think typically a shower is held between 28-32 weeks. I would send out invites about a month ahead of time. You need to remember that the snail mail takes about a week, and then you want to give enough advance notice to make sure people are able to come. There isn't much point making all the preparations if no one can come.
My mom is throwing mine right around when I'll be 32 weeks. I'm due early June and having the shower in April. It's really whatever preference you have. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to set up the nursery.
My MIL, Mom, and Sis are planning mine for early to mid March and I'm not due until May 13th. I'm a planner, I want to have everything set up and ready for baby.
Sounds fine to me. I've been to several that were 8 weeks before the due date. I even went to one in November that was 3 months before the due date, because the girl is from here but now lives 4 hours away and her mom wanted to have a shower for her on one of her visits home.
I've actually heard that 6-8 weeks before due date is ideal, since you never know what the last month or so will bring. It would suck to have a shower scheduled for week 36 and then find yourself on bed rest.

No way! I am having mine in February, and I am due in May with twins. I want to be able to still function, build, unpack and prepare the nursery after the shower and not be a huge walking disaster that is incapable of much.
I am due in mid April and my shower is schedule for the first week of March. My only concern is the weather, I am hoping for no snow or freezing weather in March. :-?
Usually a shower is held between 28 and 37 weeks. (I promise 37 weeks is enough time to be 'comfortable' and be able to get the important things.) However, some times people have one earlier due to traveling.
I think the perfect time is around 30 weeks. IMO 35+ weeks is too late bc you just never know. I fell into that trap having my 1st at 36 weeks and 2 days after my shower. My DH was tearing things open at home and bringing them to the hospital for me. We then had to make several trips to BRU the first week home with the baby to make returns and purchase things.

My cousin was getting married so we had other obligations in the later part of the pregnancy.
I was having a very difficult pregnancy and was put on bed rest several times and I was also admitted into the hospital several times.
