Another anatomy scan :/

I posted a question on here last week about having to have another anatomy scan. They told me that I needed to come back in two weeks to get pictures of the spine and heart. Apparently the baby was moving too much to get a good view. I just got a call from the dr and they want me to go to the hospital for an ultrasound instead of back to their office. According to them they couldn't get a good visual of head, spine and heart. They said the hospital has better ultrasound machines and can look from different angles. I am trying to take it at face value, but I can't help but worry. I would hope they would have told me if they suspected something was wrong. I just can't help but cry over this. :(

Re: Another anatomy scan :/

  • I wouldn't worry about it. I have to have another scan, too, because baby was not in a good position to get all of the shots of the heart that they needed.

  • My anatomy scans are never at the doctor's office, only at a place in the hospital. They probably just want to make sure they get the shots they need.

  • There really is a noticeable difference in the highest tech ultrasound machines- super clear pictures. It's a good thing to have the best machine available to check on the hard to see places even if there's nothing indicating a problem :) I wouldn't worry too much.

  • Mine wasn't at the OB office either. My A/S was done in radiology. That's just how they do it here. I wouldn't worry! They would tell you if something was wrong!

  • I wouldn't be too worried - my anatomy scan is at the hospital (well, one of the hospital buildings nearby) because they have a better machine. My doctor's office refers everyone there, they don't even try it with their U/S equipment.

  • I've only ever had ultrasounds done at the hospital and I too have to go back...baby girl was laying on her back and refused to move so the poor tech couldn't get any spinal shots...I'm elated to be able to see my baby again though!
  • Please try to relax. DH and I are going back on the 31st. They could not get views of the heart and the brain. Our little girl just refused to cooperate with the tech. They are sending us to their 'higher risk' office because it has better equipment. They are not going to withhold information from you. If they had cause for concern, they would have told you.

  • I'm sure everything is fine. And hey, maybe a better machine means some really nice, clear pictures of your LO :)

  • Like the others have said, I wouldn't worry. My first A/S is on January 2 and it's at the hospital. Their equipment is much better than the tech at my OB.

  • I agree with all the PPs I have to go in again because the baby's spine was shadowing the heart and he was measuring large so they are going to take another look. I'm not scared I'm excited to see him again. If they find something bad then I will worry but at this moment I'm not going to worry about things that might happen but probably won't.
  • Hang in there mama--it's hard not to worry! It is quite common to have to go back for a "round two" due to stubborn babies.

  • I went to the hospital this time too since I am over 35. They just want to use the best equipment to get the clearest pictures. If they tried another one at your office it might not be good again so what would be the point? They are picking what they think will yield the best images for your doctor to review. AND maybe you will get lucky like we did-- they gave us 4 of the 3D photos unexpectedly! Don't sweat it, it's a normal request, especially if baby wasn't cooperating.
