Could this really make me THIS tired? UPDATE

I am on my 3rd day with out my prenatal vitimins and for the last few days I have been EXHAUSTED! Today I can barely drag myself out of bed. Do prenatal a affect energy that much? Could this be the reason I am so extra unusually tired? I have been tired this whole 6 months, some days worse than others, but this is crazy! My pharmacy ran out of my prenatal a but has ordered some that should arrive tomorrow :) Anyone else experience a big drop in energy on days you didn't take your vitamins? *update...I just talked to my OB and he does not think a few days off vitamins could cause this much fatigue and that he is not sure what is going on. He wants to see me in the office Monday and said That going to the ER I the meantime would be a good option if I keep feeling worse. I would feel like such a dork going to he ER saying I pregnant and tired! But, I am also very weak and getting short of breath. I posted the update because several of you were wondering if a few days off vitamins could cause severe fatigue and according to my. OB it is unlikely :/

  • I would imagine they would help with energy, but am not sure.  I am fairly good at taking them as soon as I wake up, so I have no idea!  Good luck!

  • It could be the drop in iron? I'm not sure though. But I forgot my prenatals and stayed at my parents the last two nights and have been completely exhausted too!

  • Hmmm, maybe. I am completely wiped out today and thought it was just because I was not feeling well earlier in the week and the last two days have been crazy busy, but I also did not take my PNV's for three days because I had a slight case of the stomach bug DS had and was getting horrible stomach aches. I thought the vitamins would probably make it worse. Now that I read your post I realized that maybe I am so tired because I haven't taken my vitamins. I still haven't started back on my iron either because that really messes with my stomach!

  • I would say yes. For me, without the extra B2 and B6 my energy drags. Hopefully your pharmacist gets them soon.

Yep, I was gonna say this! Lacking the B vitamins can make you more tired.

  • Do any of you take an extra b12 vitamin?
  • I think (at least where I live) the lack of natural sunlight in the winter makes me always feel tired...plus with all the holiday madness...I could fall asleep at 730 every night!

Yes my dr prescribed me it due to low levels

  • Yes, definitely. If I don't take them for one day I notice a difference.

i didn't take mine 3 days in a row while we were traveling for christmas, and i haven't noticed any change in energy level or exhaustion.  sounds like something else might be up.  i don't claim medical accuracy here, but my gut says 3 days without the added iron wouldn't make your levels drop so much that you'd progress to instant anemia in 72 hours.
  • I only started taking prenatals in the second trimester (I was taking folic acid, though) and I have noticed zero change in energy levels. Three days should not be enough for you to develop any sorts of symptoms unless you are clinically and pathologically deficient in certain vitamins/minerals.

If you are really severely short of breath, do go to the ER. That is more than just tiredness.

  • This could be totally unrelated, but thought I would throw it out there anyway. Right before I was officially diagnosed as a Diabetic, I was straight up exhausted. Like, barely drag my ass off the couch tired. My sugar levels were 300+ which was the reason I was so tired, my body was barely functioning.

    Good luck, mama!!!

  • Update:I went to the ER yesterday. Apparently I was quite dehydrated for one thing. The doctor also mentioned that I need to make sure that I am not lying on my back at all because it can pinch a nerve. Even sitting up certain ways can cause the uterus to compress vains. He said that my being small may make that happen more easily as my belly gets bigger. They also kept me for awhile because my blood pressure was low but heart rate was high and I was having an irregular heartbeat. I will be following up with my OB Monday and most likely a cardiologist as well. Doesn't seem like anything major just several little things to keep an eye on I guess.
  • Glad you got checked out!! Water, water, water. Stay hydrated :-)
