Eek!! So visiting family in Florida, and my husband got me some orange juice early today. I asked for more later, but decided I should check the bottle...and I found out it was unpasteurized! Immediately called 24-hour nursing line who called poison control, and they said I would know by now if there were any problem.
Still, not so happy right now and wanted to know if anyone else did something like this with comforting results!
I drink unpasteurized OJ. (Aka fresh squeezed) I figure it's the same as me eating the actual orange. It hasn't been pasteurized either. (My grocery store makes fresh squeezed OJ while you wait. They just pour a bag of oranges into a machine and OJ comes out. I try to make sure we drink it or throw it out within a few days. But I'm not concerned about drinking it. I think it's the same as eating any fresh fruit.)
I drink unpastized juice from the farmers market every weekend. As a plus commercial orange juicers are easy to clean, because they require constant cleaning to avoid pulp build up.
the unpasturized anything rule is only because the foods are more likely to carry harmful bacteria... youd know if you got sick from it if it did have the bad bacteria, its not a silent thing attacking your baby.
This. People treat a lot of foods on the "no" list as though they are poisons--they aren't. Most foods don't suddenly become more likely to be "harmful" just because you are pregnant. The only thing that changes is that on the off chance you do consume the wrong bacteria and get sick, the repercussions are potentially greater. If you aren't feeling sick, your baby is almost certainly fine.
Obviously there are certain exceptions for food/drink that you don't want to consume in excess for a pregnant woman like alcohol or fish with high mercury content, but things like raw sushi, unpasteurized juices/cheeses, etc. are not naturally bad for you or your baby UNLESS they carry the bacteria, which is why considering the source of the food is just as important as considering the food itself.

Get out of here with your logic and reasoning! There's no place for that here!
SUSHI = KISS OF DEATH BRIE = MORTAL WISH UNPASTEURIZED JUICE = SATAN'S BLOOD

Unpasteurized apple cider
Wine
Beer
Cheeses of many shapes and sizes
Melon
Lunch meat
And the thing I think gave me food poisoning was actually a pre-packaged frozen product (similar to pizza).
So there ya go.
