April 2014 Moms

RCS set!!

I had my appointment today and set the date for my repeat csection! Yay! I'm due April 11 and we set it for April 4 at 10am, so I'll be 39 weeks. I'm not a candidate for vbac and am excited to have this date! Obviously if I go into labor before things could change but as of now it is on my calendar. This makes it super easy to arrange child care for my son too.

FYI to other RCS mamas - they said to arrive 2 hours before and that I'll be there from Friday morning til Monday morning.

  • I'm just curious, how long did it take you ladies to heal from your first CSection? Because of the events of my son's birth I really would like the doctor to skip inducing me (I will not go through that horror again or the anxiety of the after effects) and do a c-section. I've heard some heal fast and others take over 8 weeks. Just curious your particular experiences :)

    Thanks in advance ladies!

Sorry if this is dumb, but I'm confused, did your induction with your son end in a c-section?

  • No, I wound up with an abruption that they didn't know about until after my son came out. They "think" the abruption happened about 5 hours before he was born so it almost didn't go well and I am terrified of a repeat episode.

  • Ok, most doctors don't do elective c-sections, so don't get yourself set on that. It's a major surgery after all. :)

Anyways I recovered fairly quickly and easily from my c-section. I didn't use pain meds for a long time. I walked the mall 10 days after birth. But I know some women who do have really long recoveries.

  • My previous doc, the one who delivered my son, said it wouldn't really be elective as my age and other aspects put it more of a medical recommendation because I am at increased risk of it happening again. Hence my question. I haven't talked to this new doc about it yet, he is more focused on keeping me healthy to see if I can stay here or if I go stateside. That decision will likely be made in the next 4 weeks

  • @seafyr I was at mom and baby yoga with my son when he was 3 weeks old!

  • that's reassuring!

  • My recovery longer. I still wasn't 100% after 6 weeks. But, I hemorrhaged so I don't know how that affected the recovery. I also labored and pushed for a long time before the c section. I hope it goes much better this time around.

  • Hooray for scheduling things early! Mine is set for the 3rd (EDD is the 10th). I will check in at 0700, deliver around 0900 and go home around lunchtime on Sunday if I all goes according to plan. Much less stressful than the whole 27 hour labor just to end up with a c-section anyhow. Fingers crossed that this little one stays where she belongs until then.

  • Wow! That is crazy! It must be surreal to know exactly what day your baby is coming. Congrats!

  • Thanks ladies! Last time I was in extended labor for 4 night and extremely exhausted by the time I had my 3am section, so hopefully this one is like a walk in the park, lol! And how cool is the birthday 04-04-14? Plus it's two days after my own birthday! Awesome present!

  • Our docs have a pretty set schedule, so I know who I should be able to have.  My docs recommend doing it at 39 weeks, so one of the two docs I like is on that day (there are 3 in the prac plus a midwife and np).  The doc who I really want (who did my csection for ds) doesn't do elective cs until Wednesdays, so I might not be able to have her.

Yes! We can have our own little countdown going! I'm so glad to have a definite date picked. Last time I thought of my due date as a countdown and that wasn't fun when that day came and went with no baby!

  • Awww, congratulations!  April 4th is the date I would choose too if I knew I had to have a c section... I'm due 4/7 and hoping to go on 4/4.  That's the day I was baptized.  And also, one of the few days in April that isn't the birthday of a friend or family member!  What a great day!

  • When I spoke to the billing department about seeing if having my tubes tied would change the amount I had to pay to the OBGYN, they told me I would schedule my c-section at my 20 week appointment.  Well, that has come and gone and I asked about it the other day and the nurse looked at me like I was nuts.  She said they do that at like 30 weeks or so.  I also have to have a RCS.  I am a little nervous, but excited to have the date soon!

  • Last time I started contractions on my due date - Aug 25 - and was in labour til I finally got a section on August 30th! No thanks! I'm loving having a date set - although I'm scared I'll go into labor before!
