According to my doctor who owns Rocky Mountain Fertility in Denver CO, yes it can make you ovulate. And if its hard to understand.. Sorry. Don't know how else to word it as its been a crazy year and its a long story!
Paragraphs and sticking to just the relevant info would be helpful. I honestly just skimmed that and am not sure what you're looking for. Your OB sounds questionable as well.
Provera does not stimulate ovulation. It's a progesterone supplement desgined to trick your body into thinking it has ovulated so that when it is withdrawn, the change in hormones jump starts a period. Some women here have ovulated shortly after starting provera, just a fluke thing. It was a coincidence of timing, not caused by the provera. Maybe that happened to you?
Wow... Everyone's being so rude. Sorry if the paragraph I posted was confusing. Was just looking for some advice. If you have nothing positive, helpful or encouraging to say than keep to yourself. Ill go based upon what my fertility specialist of 20+ yrs experience says.
Joy, who are you? What more information would you like me to give you?? I'm telling you what my DR, DR.Smith from Rocky Mountain Fertility in Denver Colorado is telling me, Call her and ask if you'd like (303) 999-3877 If your going to be rude, quit commenting! Thanks!!!!
I get that you think that your doctor is awesome. That doesn't mean he/she is right 100% of the time. From personal experience, they are not infallible. But if your doctor is the all knowing expert, then what exactly is it that you want us to tell you?
Ok, I see you've changed your wording now to say that it is possible to ovulate on provera. That is true, though not common. Also very different from what you originally said, which is that it's possible to ovulate BECAUSE of provera.
No one here is being rude. We are direct, yes, but it's not rude. And we asked legitimate questions, which you don't seem to want to answer.
For your information, no I am not an expert. But I do have exerience with trouble conceiving and seeing an RE, so I also know things about fertility testing, treatment, and meds. And like I mentioned earlier, I have experience being told things by doctors that turned out not to be entirely accurate (though not my RE). So I'm sorry if I encourage people to question things and advocate for themselves but I think it's important not to blindly trust everything a doctor says just because they are a doctor. And what yours is saying in this case doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
Edited to clarify something - if your doctor said provera caused ovulation, that's what doesn't make sense. If your doc just said you could still ovulate on the provera, that's a different story.
To answer a question from your OP, the heart doesn't start beating until around 6w or so, so it is true that it would have been too early at your initial ultrasound to see/hear it. At 7 weeks, you should have better luck.
What do I not want to answer?? I told my whole story of an uphill battle that my husband and I have endured over the last year that was clearly to unorganized for anyone to read. Sorry the whole experience has been messy and I'm not some experienced blogger who's online every day posting on discussion boards. Provera does not PREVENT or stop ovulation and anytime your putting chemicals and different medications in your body, anything is possible. So SpacePotato, clearly your have nothing positive to say or any advise to give me other than tell me I'm wrong, my DR is wrong and you know everything… stop commenting
What a waste of time this whole thing was. I joined this in 2009 when I was pregnant with my daughter. I loved it. Thought I'd come back here and seek help, encouragement and advise from other pregnant women maybe who have experienced similar things.. and I've been made to feel like a complete idiot and worse about everything than before I posted this!!

Your doctor said you could ovulate on Provera. I gave you a detailed description of how progesterone worked and said I didn't understand how that was possible. I asked if you had more information.
It's really a simple question. You can just say "No, I don't have more information, but I understand how that it seems counterintuitive."
Seriously. Why are you freaking out?
I don't get it either. It's just a discussion, no reason to get so defensive. We're not saying everyone is wrong and knows nothing. We're just questioning the info. That's all. Nothing to fly off the handle about.
Whatever, I'm out. It's clear the OP is not interested in an actual conversation.

Hold up. I don't think asking for clarification or correcting inaccurate information is rude. I'm seriously confused on exactly what you wanted with this post? I'm serious.
Did you want us to tell you that you ovulated due to provera? We can't do that. That's not what the drug does.
Clomid aids in ovulation, though. I'm really not sure we can give you anything positive when you are not clearly communicating your desires.
I'm just wondering, are you an expert or just another mom? Because your acting like a "Know it All" and being very rude!!!
Who are you talking to? Why did you ask folks here if you don't want intelligent, knowledgeable responses? I'm so confused. If you believe your doctor (and I don't think I trust her given what you've described), then why post questions. Obviously you think we are full of crap. So what gives?
Thought I'd come back here and seek help, encouragement and advise from other pregnant women maybe who have experienced similar things
You are getting lots of helpful answers from posters who have extensive knowledge. There are some that have experienced similar things with these drugs. You have your panties in a twist because people aren't telling you what you want to hear. Exactly what is it that you want? Be specific.
Wow I'm so glad everyone has time to sit here and argue back and fourth while I've been at work tonight!! I'm a full time working mom really have no time nor desire to sit here and listen to all of this. What I posted got thrown way out of context. I wasn't expecting anyone to tell me anything. Was jut wondering if anyone had any similar experience. I find it funny how everyone all of a sudden is an expert and a Doctor. I didn't ask anyone to explain to me what provera or clomid or any drug does as I already know. I will be deleting this post as I don't care to read any more of the crap that has came from it!

Oh Jesus, shut the fuck up with that already! Let me help you out here:
1. Don't post stupid shit that makes no sense.
2. Don't do #1 then throw a bitch fit when you don't like what you hear. It's rude.
3. Don't piss and moan and call people rude when they are trying to figure out what you are asking and genuinely trying to answer your question. It's rude.
4. Don't dirty delete. It's rude.
5. You're not the only full time working mom around here. And we don't care that you are.
6. Find a new doctor. Yours is a moron.
7. If you can't handle it, step away from the computer.

Thought I'd throw in- I didn't O after I had my Mirena removed. I was given Provera to bring on my period after I hit CD 60. I was told it wasn't possible to get pregnant on it. However, according to my u/s and chart, I seem to have ovulated either the day I began it, or the day after. So... Coincidence? Maybe? But pretty odd timing!
IDC I'm pregnant!
Congrats on falling on to my shit list for spewing idiocy.
EXCUSE me? I simply related my experience, apparently my personal experience, which I said could be attributed to a coincidence, means idiocy.
What is your problem?
No one is saying your experience wasn't legit. It was what it was. But it is definitely wrong to suggest that Provera may have caused you to ovulate. I mean, think about it. You've been on TTGP and Fertility Friend long enough to have an idea of what has to happen in your body before that follicle can be released, right? So do you seriously think that within a day of your taking the Provera, all of that magically happened so that you could ovulate? Doubtful. More than likely, your body was already gearing up for it and you just happened to start the Provera right as O was about to happen for you.
This is not unheard of, obviously, and people have gotten pregnant on birth control so it's not like progesterone always suppresses ovulation for everyone. No one has said otherwise here. The point we're all trying to make is that progesterone/Provera does not CAUSE ovulation.

Way to act like a child. And thanks for the flag. I'll treasure it. :-*
That's because she couldn't DD so she edited the post to remove the original post.
