How much is too much pain?

I'm a FTM and everyone keeps telling me "oh ya it's normal". How much pain is too much pain.

Here is my story. So today after going to the store with stepdaughters for a few last min shopping while dad was out too, I ended up crying my eyes out and had to have my mom and stepdad literally come over to help me out of the car. I was in soo much pain.

I did get hurt at work on Tuesday was sore Wednesday and Thursday a bit but was Ok on Friday. Saturday I helped setup a birthday for my friend and get her 1 year old ready. Nothing for me as I work 13 hr days as a nurse but by the end of the night I was really hurting. My hips mostly.

So I rested and this morning woke up feeling like I ran a marathon. I chucked it up to sex. Finally had sex that night. Nothing crazy at all but thought maybe I was way out of shape. I had husband stretch me out and rested while he took kids to shop for me.
We went to the store and to lunch late afternoon after I rested and then I went to Walmart with the girls. I was sore but walking felt good.

I ended up in my driveway and crying in pain as my legs could not support my weight when I stood up.

My question "finally" is. Everyone says this is normal as your hips and body shape to baby but how much is too much and what can I do?

Re: How much is too much pain?

  • If you're crying from the pain that doesn't seem normal to me. I'd call your dr and see what they suggest. Of nothing else, maybe a chiropractor can help with the pain.

  • Pregnancy does weird things to you! I've had my hips cramp up before (especially during sex) but I've never experienced my butt muscles cramping up just from napping in a funny position until tonight!
I would say if you consider your pain unbearable/intolerable you should at least be in touch with your OB. It might be normal stretching/body shifting but they might be able to recommend specific stretching exercises or a support belt that would help. Or even PT.
In the meantime I would try to be proactive and stretch before walking any longer distances/periods of time and making sure I was using pillows to support my body while sleeping or resting. Also heating and ice packs as needed.
    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Thanks. Going to do something tomorrow. Call at least. My mom helped me into a Epson bath and then took a nap. Been on my heating pad too. I just feel like either I'm being a big baby or no one is listening to me. Thank god I do not work tomorrow.
  • Sometimes I get that where my hip suddenly give way and can't put any pressure on them. It happened to me while shopping with my mum It hurt so much I was leaning over the conveyor belt at the till for about 5 minutes the checkout assistant wasn't to pleased but my mum gave her a look of she's pregnant and she's staying here haha. However I would get it checked out just give them a call that's there job there paid to do it. Hope your feel better soon xx
  • It sounds like you might have SPD?  I would definitely get checked out, it's normal to feel sore but not for it to be debilitating.

  • Going into hospital for get worked over.
  • Oh my I have the funniest story about my lil bean today. the baby was opening his/her mouth and sticking the tonge out constantly. Looked like it was talking or eating. Non stop seriously the cutest thing ever. Even got a shot of the tonge sticking out.
  • I'd say any pain that puts you into tears is worthy of a call to your OB!
  • That sounds like way too much pain for normal daily activities.  Glad you are getting checked out. Good luck!

  • I just read today about pregnancy cradles that can help to alleviate hip and leg pain when your body starts to get out of line. Maybe something like this would help?
