Stressed to the max

I posted earlier that my husband and I just got major roles in a production of Les Misérables, and the outpouring of support has been amazing - thank you, ladies.

BUT...

The director just forwarded some very disturbing emails to me that she received today after announcing the cast. Someone made a direct complaint to her referring to me by my whole name to let her know that I'm pregnant (he said I'd be 8 months pregnant during the show, which is incorrect), but anyway, then she told him she knew of my pregnancy and it's not going to conflict with my part. And his reply to her was a copied and pasted message I sent privately to a friend on Facebook, and then he accused me of bragging and not having to share the same rules about missing rehearsals. My problems with all of this are that I've never heard of this person, my friend has never heard of him, and the director has no clue who he is. I want to know how he was able to copy and paste my private message, how he knows that I'm pregnant, and why he thinks it's his business to complain about it. The director was very upset about these messages and she is reporting it as harassment to the police department. The director is so wonderful, and told me that she will protect us and make sure that this asshole can't access anymore information, and my husband is ape-shit right now. I called our police department, and the officer I spoke with laughed at me and said it was just someone who is jealous about not getting a part, and he said I'm over-reacting.

Call me paranoid, but I'm worried for myself and the baby. Now, I don't want to do the show.

That is totally creepy and I'm just so offended for you that I actually don't have anything insightful to say other than that I'm sorry this is happening.

Wow that's scary. Well hopefully they get it figured out and stop whoever is doing it. They're obviously just jealous!

I'm so sorry. If I had to guess I would say it's someone you know well who is in the production already and didn't want to complain using their own name! It's still very creepy that this person had a private FB message but honestly FB isn't THAT private. I would be weirded out but I'll bet you $100 there is no weirdo out there.

It can be really upsetting how little help police can be, trust me. I had an officer not believe me that my roommate was having a meltdown because she hadn't threatened me or threatened suicide, apparently it's all or nothing. 

Hopefully they get it figured out, don't worry too much about it, I'm sure it's a disgruntled husband from someone who didn't get the part. Adults can be such babies...

How scary! I'm glad that the directer is stepping in to help keep your information safe and reported it all to the police.

Yikes! That is creepy. When do rehearsals start? At what point would you have to make a final decision on your participation? I definitely wouldn't ignore it, but maybe you can keep in close contact with the director and the police to ensure that the harassment does not continue or escalate before you make up your mind? I'm so sorry that this is even an issue. I am very confused how he accessed a private message.

Holy shit, I am so sorry. How awful. You have every right to feel skeeved out. Thank goodness you have a director that will go to bat for you! Keep us updated! !

OMG I'm so sorry.  Your director sounds amazing!  I hope the police can sort it out, I would definitely follow through with them.  Have you done a lot of theater, could be someone that follows you, obsessively, not to freak you out, but if you are in the public more, maybe someone stands out that has acted weird in the past, etc.  That is bizarre, I would ensure that you change all your passwords, and relax, I'm sure you can sort it out before then.  Good Luck, thoughts and prayers.  I hope you do the show, it sounds amazing

@csmily51 - I actually have had stalker problems in the past because of performances I've done, so that did cross my mind. That was a nutso situation - he forced his way into my apartment - and the police were all over him like flies on shit. He's loooong gone.

@wifeofacomposer I'm sorry that you've had to go through that! I hope everything works out for the best! And I'm sorry I must have read your post too quickly and not realized you said the cops laughed at you.  Since you have had issues in the past, regardless if its a different person, they should know you're not crazy/paranoid, these are real issues and concerns for you.  T&P's!

That is so creepy.  I really hope they are about to figure out who it is so you can start to feel safe again, and are able to do the show.

So, I called the police department I used to work closely with when I was a health inspector, and the Sergeant listened to every word I had to say, and he said it seems more of a threat toward the director, not me, but the sender is using my situation to prove a point. The Sergeant told me that he's making a record of the whole thing, and he's sending a copy to our local Sergeant and Chief, and the Detective (who is actually a personal friend of mine) will also be notified when she is back from vacation. He told me to relax but to stay alert for any other weird computer stuff.

What I have figured out is that the original email sent to all of the major cast members was sent at 11:31am, which was 2 hours before the cast list was posted on the company website, and the first message sent to the director was at 11:35 - SO, it has to be someone who was offered a part, but was likely unhappy with it. By gathering all of these messages, we will find out who it was, and they will be reprimanded. I feel a lot better after talking with the Sergeant and realizing that it must be someone on the cast list using a fake name. They might be jealous, but they are harmless.

holy crap, girl...  that's seriously troubling stuff   i'm really sorry this is happening!  it sounds like you have a good team of people at the ready to protect and defend you, but i'm still really sad this dark cloud has descended so quickly on your awesome news.

(i'm busy this week and hadn't seen the update that you got the part!  congratulations!!!)

What a relief that there is actually something of a "lead" to work with! Hopefully it all gets figured out soon so that some sort of action can be taken. How pathetic that someone would do that over not getting the part they wanted! Does this mean you now feel comfortable participating then? If so, yay!

Wow! I can't believe how people can go out of their way to do something like that. Good thing you have someone backing you up at work and you have some idea of what's going on. Congrats on th part by the way!

Yikes what a scary thing to happen! I'm glad you were able to use your connections and it seems like everyone is on your side (except of course the biter bastard ) hope they get to the bottom of it quickly.
