I can't believe I'm going to type all of this on my iPhone but here goes!
So in case anyone doesn't know, my water broke at 29 weeks 6 days. I woke up and felt a small leak and decided to just go back to sleep. About 10 seconds later, I felt another leak. I woke my husband up and told him we needed to go to L&D. Honestly, I thought I was overreacting and that I had just leaked pee. At first the test came back negative for amniotic fluid and I was thrilled and joking about how I would tell everyone I peed myself and went to the hospital over it. I got up to go to the bathroom and had a small gush of fluid again. The nurse rechecked and it was amniotic fluid.
I can't even begin to explain the panic I felt. The doctor came in and told us we we're not going anywhere and that the baby could come at anytime. I was hysterical. They did an ultrasound and my fluid was still great so we thought it would be fine. They gave me the steroid shot and magnesium. That magnesium is EVIL. I felt terrible. Getting to the point, I ended up being there on bedrest for 28 days. My fluid got really low but baby looked good. On Monday the 16th the baby was ok but not having the accelerations he needed to so my doctor and I decided it was go time even though we had planned for a c/s on Wednesday.
When I got into the OR, the anesthesiologist tried for a long time to get my spinal. It was really painful! They kept scratching my belly to see if it had taken and it hadn't taken completely on the left side. I was panicking because I knew this might happen because of my spinal fusion and other back surgeries. Apparently it was numb where the incision would be but right above it was not. The anesthesiologist asked me if I was ok with them cutting to see if it was numb for sure and I looked at him and said, "Are you for real?" He then said that he wasn't comfortable with that and I was going to sleep. I started to cry and my bp and heartrate shot up. He told me I needed to calm down and then he pushed the drugs. I still feel like I let my husband down and hate that I missed the birth.
I woke up in recovery and was miserable. It took them forever to get my pain pump! All I wanted was to see my baby. I got to see him for about two minutes in the NICU. He was beautiful. Noah was born at 33 weeks 5 days. I got to see him more as I recovered.
Noah is doing amazingly well. He was off CPAP after the first 12 hours. He has since gotten on bottles and we tried to breastfeed today. I'm pumping like crazy but am having some trouble with supply. We actually found out today that he might be coming home Christmas Day! So this beautiful little boy is accelerating so fast and could only end up having a 9 day NICU stay!!!
Sorry this was so long but here are some pictures of my baby boy.
