Baby Names

Qwin

DH and I went to see the Nutcracker Ballet last night and during intermission I was looking through the program at all the names just to see if anything jumped out at me. Well this one certainly did! It was the name of one of the angels who were all played by girls between the ages of 6 and 8.

We actually plan on naming our baby (if it's a girl) Quinn. It never crossed my mind to ever spell it Qwin though....it kind if hurts my eyes! I imagine the poor kid will have her name constantly misspelled :/

Re: Qwin

  • Quinn is fine. Qwin is not.
  • I couldn't decide whether this was meant to be a variant of "Quinn" or "Queen"

    either way, God-awful.

  • I went to high school with a girl who spelled it Quyen. I have never seen it spelled like that anywhere else, so I don't know if it's legit or if her parents changed the spelling to make it you-neek. Qwin is bad.

Don't worry, I'm working on it.

  • I work with a Qwendolyn. She goes by Qwen, but everyone is always pronouncing it Gwen. Stick with traditional spellings, people!

  • Qwin is awful. My youngest daughter is Quinn...I can't imagine spelling it any other way.

When I read Quyen I thought it looked vaguely Vietnamese to me...like Nguyen or something. However it is perfectly possibly that it is just a crazy spelling of Quinn.

  • Omg. No. Sometimes when I see this stuff I just hope the moms weren't good at spelling.

I went to HS with a Quyen. She was Vietnamese so I assume this was an Americanized version of a Vietnamese name.
  • Yikes! Not a good spelling..
