GTKY: Holiday Edition

Hi all! I'm sitting at home on my butt instead of doing the stuff I have to do and decided to make a GTKY. Chime in if you're bored too :)

1) What holiday do you celebrate?
2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl?
3) What is your favorite holiday drink? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
4) What's your favorite holiday food?
5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO?

Re: GTKY: Holiday Edition

  • 1) What holiday do you celebrate? Christmas

    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl? Too much of a last minute person. I really need to get better about that. I'm always so stressed out at the end.

    3) What is your favorite holiday drink? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). It doesn't really count, but Dunkin Donuts vanilla chai smells like Christmas to me, I love it.

    4) What's your favorite holiday food? Cookies. And my aunt's pork.

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? A couple at my aunt's house on Christmas Eve but the majority on Christmas morning.

    6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO? I don't know. After our first was born, we kept all traditions the same, even still sleeping at my parents' house on Christmas Eve. But next year, I might want to stay home and let my parents come over in the morning. I don't know.

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
    We open on Christmas Eve.

    6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO?
We won't be rushing Christmas morning to my mom's, we'll spend the morning at home and go over later for Christmas.

And a tree :)

    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl? A mix of both

    1) What holiday do you celebrate? Christmas

    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl?
I like to try to get it done early, we had most gifts bought before thanksgiving. We have one more person to buy for and I just need to grab bf's gift.

    3) What is your favorite holiday drink? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
    Peppermint mocha frappucinno from Starbucks.

    4) What's your favorite holiday food?
    Ham.

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
    Christmas Day.

    6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO?
Nope! Since this is our third nothing will change. We are planning on buying a house in the next 2 months and I'm hoping to be able to host at our house to avoid running all over the nation, but that's not just because of the baby.
  • 1) What holiday do you celebrate? Christmas
    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl? Typically, I get them early. This year has been a different story. The holidays crept up on me.

  • 1) What holiday do you celebrate? Christmas
    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl? Both. I shop through the year, and finish in December. I am usually out a few days before picking up last minute items, like Pollyanna presents. This yer I have yet to do my mom, and I am just stumped. Every time I think of something, I think its stupid. Really getting nervous now.
    3) What is your favorite holiday drink? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) Champagne.
    4) What's your favorite holiday food? We do a seven fish dinner on Christmas Eve. I can honestly say I look forward to it all year long.
    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?  Christmas Eve with my fathers extended family (one aunt two cousins). Christmas day with both immediate families. We do Pollyanna parties with both my mothers side (shes one of 7) and his fathers side (he is one of 8). Normally they are the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas, respectively. This year they are the same day, same time. Lots of running around to be done, that is for sure!
    6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO? Already changing! We normally host Christmas Eve, but we are doing construction for the nursery, so my mom is hosting this year. Next year it should come back to us. Also, normally we spend Christmas early morning with his, Christmas late morning with mine, and the rest of the day on our own. This year we will spend the rest of the day at my aunts. Next year hope to go back to normal, but I think there will be even more pressure to host everyone. We shall see.

It's DDs first Christmas this year, but we haven't changed much. Morning with our little family, dinner with my side, and Boxing Day with DHs side.

This is the first time I've heard of getting new PJ's on Christmas Eve. I really like that and will be incorporating it with our LO.

We used to get a box, inside was new pjs, hot chocolate pack with a new mug, popcorn, and a Xmas movie :)
We will do this once this kids old enough to understand. =)
  • 1. Christmas
    2. Mostly early but I feel like I'm always running around the last week before Christmas.
    3. Crock pot hot chocolate
    4. My dad makes gumbo on Christmas Eve, we all look forward to it every year!
    5. Both. We open a couple gifts on CE at my husband's grandparent's house.
    6. I would really love Christmas Day traditions to change. Right now my in-laws (mil, fil, 2 sils and bil) all come over Christmas morning and then we head to my husband's other grandparent's house and then to my family the rest of the day. Next year my daughter will be almost 2 1/2 and I just want to relax at home in the morning by ourselves and let my daughter just enjoy Christmas morning. We really hate running around to so many places in one day...I'm dreading Christmas this year.

  • 1. Christmas
    2. Usually, last minute. This year I started early, but finished yesterday. I guess the procrastinator in me was dying to come out.
    3. Red wine
    4. Hmmm, I don't know. As of Friday, cake balls.
    5. Christmas Day.
    6. Nope. The year after my daughter turned one we decided to split holidays to every other year because it just got to be too much with a little one. So, we will keep that theme when the new one arrives.

    1) What holiday do you celebrate? Christmas!  Happy birthday, Jesus!
    2) Do you buy your presents early or are you a last-minute kind of girl? I am in the middle.  I started earlier this year because I was shopping on yard sale sites, but I was still buying stocking stuffers and DH gifts yesterday.
    3) What is your favorite holiday drink? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) Starbucks Peppermint Mocha.
    4) What's your favorite holiday food? Stuffing, gravy, and mashed potatoes. I know that is a Thanksgiving thing, but my MIL is a home-cooking kind of person, and will totally break them out for Christmas *fingers crossed*.
    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Christmas Day.  We may open at Grandma's on Christmas Eve depending on where holidays fall.
    6) Do you see next year's holiday traditions changing much due to arrival of LO? We already have two, so I can't imagine them changing TOO much.  I am hoping we run around a bit less (like only one house per day, rather than two).
ETA: I think I would like to be stricter with a 3 gift rule or something, too.

  • 1) Christmas
    2) I'm a middle of December kind of girl, but usually end up finishing a few days before Christmas
    3) WINE! Or Starbucks eggnog lattes (soooo delicious but sooooo bad for you!)
    4) Christmas cookies! Especially my aunt's cookies that only come out once a year...
    5) We usually end up opening presents both days - the last few years our Christmas schedule has been turned upside down since I have to work either Christmas Day or Eve. It really just depends on when we can get together with our families (last year was the weekend before Christmas...)
    6) I don't see next year changing as much due to LO- it'll be more based on wherever we end up moving and what my work schedule looks like. Eventually as this LO gets older and we add more to the mix, we'd love to have Christmas morning in our own house...

    4) What's your favorite holiday food?  DH usually smokes salmon as an appetizer, which I can't eat this year. I also love Christmas cookies.
    5) If you celebrate Christmas, do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? One gift on Xmas eve, everything else Christmas day.

    1) Christmas
    2) I try to get presents bought early, but it never works out. I officially finished today so does that still count for early since it's not Christmas Eve?
    3) Champagne and wine
    4) Cookies and any creamy dip
    5) Christmas Day
    6) No. My DD is 4 so Christmas revolves around her. The new baby will be 6 months old next Christmas, so I'm guessing he/she'll be into the gift wrap and boxes more than toys.
