Introducing myself/obese/cycle probs/new to bump.com

Hi All,

I would like to introduce myself, I just signed up on thebump.com today. My name is Andrea and I am wanting to lose about 110 lbs before TTC for the first time. I want to give my baby the best and healthiest start as possible. I should NOT have let myself get this out of control, but I see what I've done and I want to make a better life for myself, husband, and future child(ren). I have never had unprotected sex, but have been married for about 6.5 yrs., so I've never been pregnant, but am so excited for it!

My cycle has been out of control recently, with spotting/light period for about 2 weeks, and then 3 days ago it became more like a 'normal' period with needing to use regular and super tampons. I know that part is off topic, but I am going to call my OBGYN tomorrow about this to see what to do. I hope that is not TMI....

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else is obese and trying to lose weight, or just hearing your stories about being pregnant while obese, good and bad. If you have had any bleeding issues like mine I'd like to hear about that too...

FYI, I do not plan to even attempt pregnancy until Sept 2010, and I will be 32 yrs old at that time.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Technically I am obese because I have over 30 pounds to lose.  I use the term loosely because I don't think I look obese or would qualify myself as so.

I actually got pregnant at my heaviest weight.  I unfortunately m/c, but decided that before getting pregnant again, I would try to lose some weight.

I am down 13 pounds so far.

    Good luck on losing!

If this is true, then avoid this board.  It will drive you crazy if you have another 1.5+ years to go.  Stick to the nest.  For your own sanity.

  • I lost about 90 lbs pre-pregnancy.  I didn't do any crazy diets fads or anything like that just reduced calories and exercise.  I stuck with Sparkpeople.com and there was a group for people with significant weight to lose that helped me a lot.

I do have PCOS and got pregnant with the help of Clomid and Metformin on the 2nd cycle.

Oh and start taking pnv.  Even if you don't plan on getting pregnant soon, it is recommended for all women of childbearing age to take it.

  • I am also very overweight and got BOTB.?

From my highest weight I could have lost 200lb's and still have been considered overweight. I have lost 60lb's over the past 8 months or so. No fad diets. Just counting calories with Thedailyplate.com and getting a good work out routine.

Lurking on this board doesn't have to drive you crazy. I've been lurking daily for the past 9 months and I'm not insane yet.?I had to change my screenname not too long ago after I realized a SN with my last name in it was a bad idea.?I do suggest lurking alot more to get a better feel for the board.

    Best of luck.?

  • Thanks all. I have been on here all day. I have also previously been researching "baby stuff" online for years already, so I seriously doubt I'll go insane on here. In fact, I find it comforting that there is so much info all in one place for me to read about. Also, I *love* message boards so that is fun for me too.

I look forward to talking with all of you and learning so much!!!

  • Haha, I skipped over that first 1 and thought you said you only wanted to lose 10 pounds and considered yourself obese for being 10 pounds overweight.  I was highly offended!  Wink  Good luck on your weight loss endeavors.  I'm looking forward to getting back down to a healthy weight after giving birth (fertility meds can do a number on your figure).  The more your body gets used to your new healthier weight as you lose, the more regular your cycles will (hopefully) become.  You can do it!

This was me exactly. I gained a ton of weight before my wedding and honeymoon and lost 90 after my OB told me that my weight would probably affect our chances TTC.  I highly recommend sparkpeople.  I have a recumbent bike at home that we set up in front of the DVR and wouldn't allow myself to watch my favorite shows unless I was on the bike.  Some nights I was on the bike for 2-3 hours.

Good luck, it's hard work but SO worth it!  There's also a heath and fitness board on thenest.com that is helpful.  I also recommend getting a weight loss ticker, it helped keep me motivated when I started to see the number of pounds lost going up and up.
