Worst manager ever

I'm so upset. I asked about 3 months ago, about cutting my hours back to 32. ( 4 days a week) when the baby is born. I just found out that they will not work with me and I have to continue working 40 hours (5 days a week) or find a new job. Great company I work for. I'm so upset, this changes everything financial, daycare ect. I don't know what to do. How many of you moms will be going back 5 days a week? And putting you're baby in daycare ??

Ugh this makes me nervous I've been putting off having the same conversation with my boss. I hate the idea of working 5 days a week I feel like even 4 is pushing it but we really can't afford for me to work less. I am worried I'm going to miss so much of this little guys life stuck at work.

It's the worst feeling in the world being shut down, expecting to have that 1 day off a week to spend with the baby. Ive been crying non stop. Stressed to the max now. It's like they waiting to tell me the bad news right before the holidays

  • It does stink. I plan to go back five days/40 hrs a week. My inlaws will b w us for 5 months post birth, and I'll be home for three of those. After that it is full time day care. If not for my inlaws ( they will b visiting from India, hence the extended stay) my bsby wud b going to day care sooner. Good luck with what u decide. U r not alone:-)
  • Sorry you aren't able to change your hours.  I'll also be going back to my full-time schedule.  I work for a county government and the terms of employment are set by my contact, so even if my boss wanted to give me fewer hours, she couldn't.  I'll be home 12 weeks and then I'll need to trust baby Cora to a daycare.  DH and I have no family within 3 hours of us, and most of our friends have moved out of the area so we're pretty much on our own right now.
  • I'm full time right now, and asked my manager back in June to cut my hours to 24 every 2 weeks...that was in JUNE! I brought it up again earlier this month when I told her I was pregnant and not wanting to return full time...I was told "Well, you may have to return full time if we don't have a part time position available". BITCH! I Just want to work less hours! UGH!

  • I work full time at a corp job (40 hours) and run a small business on the side. I usually work 45-50 hours a week. I have no idea how I'll juggle twins and 2 jobs but I'm going to try.

  • Thanks for the support ladies I'm just so upset and stresses. I've been with my company 4 years and don't feel like a valued employee and see the company's true colors now :-(
  • That's really crappy of your company to do :(

I will be going back fulltime after maternity leave. I would be fine with DS gong to daycare if it wasn't so damn expensive!!

  • Sometimes it's hard for a manager to accommodate for just one person. Sorry I know that's not what you want to hear but it's hard on a company to have to maybe temporarily hire someone and then when the maternity leave is over, having to accommodate for everyone. As managers, our job is to keep the company going with the staff that we have available. Sometimes it's not that we don't value the employee but it's more that we value every employee so much, that we don't want the company to fail and leave everyone jobless. Good luck to you. I'm happy that you'll have a job to return to.
  • I'll be returning full time to my job (5 days a week, 45-50 hours per week). Baby will be in day care.

Who do you work for? Is it a retail chain? And are you Salary or Hourly?
  • I get what @cortiz253 is saying but I feel for you as well. I'm also dreading the same discussion because I'm afraid to get shot down. I want to move to canada and have a year off!

Im a nurse working for a huge healthcare company up in Boston mass. There problem is finding someone to cover an 8 hour shift. It messes there budget up. And my contract says I'm hired for 40 hours and it's staying that way

  • Can you work 4, 10 hr days? I work full time and will be taking 8 weeks leave and the. Returning to work 4 days a week 10 hrs a day for another 2 months Before going back to my 8-5 5 days a week

  • I work about 45-50 hours a week with a 3 hour round trip commute. I'm not looking forward to going back 12 weeks after my son is here but we need the money and most importantly, I carry all the health care and benefits
