TTC After a Loss

Pregnitude or Vitex anyone?

Anyone of you ladies have opinions on either of these? Good or bad opinions?

Re: Pregnitude or Vitex anyone?

  • I am not familiar with Pregnatude but I know Vitex is good for balancing your luteal phase. I took it in combination with some other supplements in a pill called Pregnancy Prep. It seemed to help even out my cycle some, but I only took it for about two cycles... I do plan on starting it again soon.

  • I tried taking vitex awhile back and it messed up my cycles. I tried it for 2 months and both of those were anovulatory.  I really think that you should talk to your doctor about this before taking supplements that may "balance" your hormones because they might make the situation worse. In hindsight, I wish I had not wasted my money and taken that chance.

  • I agree with @jalara48 - be very careful with supplements, especially ones that work on a hormonal level.

Have you been charting or have you had blood work done that would make you think you have an LP defect?

  • I've heard they either really help or completely ruin your cycles if you already had normal cycles. BUT my doc and a few others said the vitamin D and calcium can actually help regulate your cycles naturally if you want to try that first. but like others said, you should talk to your doctors first before trying anything.

  • My ob advised me to try taking maca.  I am AMA and worried that my lining wasn't sufficient.  We had also been trying for about 7 months at that point.  I got my bfp the next cycle after I started taking it.  I don't know if they are connected.

  • I've been taking inositol (1 tablespoon am & pm with choline) and a prenatal that has folic acid I believe it's much cheaper than pregnitutde. I did get my cycle after taking it for 3 weeks post loss and I'm definitely feeling twinges in my ovaries so I'm hoping to o soon as I've never really had a normal cycle. I have not tried vitex.
Inositol has been shown effective in studies when compared to metformin for women diagnosed with pcos and it's part of the b vitamin group from what I understand.

  • I've never heard of Maca? Hmmm.
  • I've heard great things about maca - esp the femmenence (sp?) from whole foods but i didn't see much change with it.

I hadn't ever heard of maca, either, and was a bit skeptical, but I really trust my acupuncturist, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's a root vegetable grown in Peru. When I went to my natural foods co-op and asked about it, they were like, "Oh, yeah, right over here" as if people ask for it all the time.

@sbg92207 - I take Femmenessence.  That's the form my OB recommended.  As you can probably tell, my OB is very crunchy.  She is also a highly trained and licensed acupuncturist as well as a practicing OB.

Yeah, I really don't know if it had an effect.  I just thought it was an interesting coincidence that I finally got a bfp my first cycle after starting it.
