Weird Question: Does anyone's bump have a "pulse"?

edited December 2013 in May 2014 Moms

Ok, so I know I sound like a total crazy right now, but I swear when I woke up this morning, it looked like my little bump was "pulsing" in time with my heartbeat.  The left side of my bump looked a bit bigger than the right, and sure enough, when I pulled out the doppler, the baby's heartbeat was right there. I'm a FTM and haven't felt any real kicks yet due to an anterior placenta, but I can hear this girl kicking away in there on the doppler.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is it possible that I'm just seeing the placenta movement?

Sorry to sound like a wacko, but it weirded me out a little bit!

ETA: spelling.

  • It's your aorta

  • Oh that makes a lot of sense actually.  I just had never noticed it before, but thanks for the response!

  • I can't see my pulse on my belly, but pretty much anytime I put my hand on the right side of my bump I can feel my pulse. I haven't felt much movement yet (once or twice I think) but I can hear Lemon's heart on the Doppler getting stronger every time we listen, and feel my own heartbeat to the touch. It's pretty cool ....

  • I feel this, too. I haven't felt baby movement yet, but I often feel my heartbeat in my belly.

  • Yup, that's your pulse through your abdominal aorta. As things grow, it gets pushed out where you can see it and feel it much more easily than you otherwise would. Freaked me out at first too!

  • Thanks for asking this! I can see mine, too, and it freaked me out at first. :)
  • Yep. I notice mine when I lay on my left side
  • Oh good, glad I'm not the only one!  I don't remember reading anything about this and had a moment of WHAT IS THAT when I saw it moving this morning!
