Baby middle names, for fun

I love this forum, so throwing this out there for fun. I need some help with baby's middle name! Hubs and I can't agree! So far this is what we've got: Boy: John (for his dad) Girl: Charlotte (will be called Charlie for multiple reasons) Hubs wants Charlie Memphis (I like but not entirely sold yet) and we have ZERO agreement for the boy. Also our last name has 3 syllables starting with Sh- The more interesting the better :)

We're using my maiden name for our boy's middle name. His first name will be Charles (he will also be a Charlie) and that's a name every guy in DH's family has, so as a compromise since the first name was a non-negotiable, our son's middle name will be my maiden name (a Swedish first name, so it works). A piece of both of us!

A friend of mine just used her mom's maiden name for her boy's middle name . . . so I think that's a sweet way to honor family in a unique way if you have any last names in the family that would be fun to use.

We will be using maiden name for this baby most likely. When I got married, I had planned on dropping my middle name and keeping my maiden name as my middle name instead. At the last minute, I decided to just keep both because I really like the sentiment behind my middle name as well (it was my the first name of my grandfather and great grandfather, Wells, and was also my mom and cousin's middle name).

When dd was born, I used my middle name for her, so she is Genevieve Wells. Since this baby will likely be my last, it just makes sense to take my other middle name (my maiden name) and use it for him or her.

    Sorry for the lengthy response!
  • I don't have a real attachment to my maiden name or my mothers. I love my family but it's not something that would make sense. I have a girlfriend who named her son her maiden name and it is awesome! As for the other male family names, hubs has shot them all down. He's not a fan. We are still working. Good thing we have time!

What is the middle name going to be?? oops... ETA that this is directed at @alicatand

My kids' middle names are all family names, either first or middle names. Have never done family last names, but not many of them are really names to use as middle names.
@megk82 Anders :) I actually really wanted it as a first name . . . but I know it's really important for DH to have his first boy a Charles. I considered "saving" Anders, but there's no guarantee if/when we'd have another boy, so I like the idea of our firstborn being loaded up with the family names!
  • We are also using family names/traditions for middle names. For a boy, it will be William (boyfriend's dad's first name). For a girl, it will be Rae (my middle name and grandmother's middle name). Since you've already thought about the family names, here is what I'm thinking...

Because John is such a classic name, I'm wondering if you'd want to think along the unique/modern lines. Something like John Aiden is sticking out to me. Or maybe Micah or Grayson.

I might also offer Rae to you for a girl's middle name :D. I think it sounds beautiful with Charlotte/Charlie. Monosyllable would be nice since your last name is also multisyllabic.

  • Marie for girl, is mine and my mothers middle name. Boy will be Marshall after DHs grandfathers middle name (his first name was Sheldon, not crazy about that)

  • I like the name Charlotte a lot, especially with the nickname Charlie.

We will most likely use my husband's mother's first name as the MN for a girl. For a boy, we'd use my mom's maiden name.

  • For us, the girls middle name will be Marie, after my moms best friend that passed away. I was very close to her and took the death very hard, so this is our way of honoring her.

The boys middle name hasn't been discussed yet. My husband is a third, so his parents/family expects us to keep the tradition and go with the fourth. We haven't decided either way. Our line of thought follow, why stress about something when theres a 50% chance it wont happen anyway?

we're also going with family names for middle names.  DD's middle name is Anne, which is my middle name and my mom's.  If this baby is a girl, the middle name will be Bernadette (after MIL's mom who passed away).  If it's a boy then the middle name will either be Gene (FIL's name) or Dennis (DH's middle name and his grandpa's first name).

ETA:  Not a fan of Memphis - Is there significance to it?  If it means something to you, then I could maybe get behind it but right now all I see is a lot of "Were you conceived there???" questions.

Silly as it sounds, I've never been to Memphis (don't think hubs has either). It's the name of one of our favorite characters. It was from the movie we saw on our first date

  • We use family names for middle names. Also it is a tradition in my family to have the first boy's middle name be the father's first name and the first girl's middle name is the mom's first name.
