A/S Ultrasound in late jan

So the ultrasound tech at the only hospital in my town booked me for my second ultrasound (at 21. Weeks , I'm 15 now) because I do want to know my baby's "sex" (for those who seem to get their panties all Bunchy if someone uses gender). But she said she needed to wait til I was 21weeks to find out. And then she commented that it would be cutting it close (as in being early) to have a good answer on baby's sex. From lots that I've read on here, anatomy ultrasounds (including to find out baby's sex) can happen as early as 18 weeks. Unless I'm mistaken. Which is fine, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I'm more than happy to wait until jan 31st, I'm not in a rush, just curious!

My OB told me I have to wait until 22 weeks for a/s and find out the sex...I thought it was nuts, buts it's her general practice.

At 21 weeks it should be pretty obvious.

See that's what I thought! But I'm a ftm, I'm just going with the flow.. I'm not goin to change the date! I was lucky enough to get a day that dh will be home from work

I had my a/s at 16 wks with my dd and we found out she was a girl - obvious and no problem figuring it out! With this pregnancy we are scheduled for 18 wks and I'm assuming we will be able to see the sex!

Well! Wth! I'm literally stunned. "ah even at 21 weeks it still maybe to early there for you, but you're small so it should be okay" that is exactly what she told me. And MIL is an OR nurse who has had 5 children told me 23 weeks is the optimum week to find out, just annoying !! Lol :-<

Huh, that's so interesting! Where I live, both practices schedule the a/s between 16-18 wks and everyone that wants to finds out the gender then. When I was pregnant with my dd, the OB did say the longer we waited towards 18/20 wks the clearer it would be and more accurate. So who knows! Like I said, we found out girl at 16 wks, confirmed at 18 wks (level 2 u/s bc of elevated risk for Down syndrome on quad screen) and obviously both techs were correct as she is a girl!
Good luck with yours - at 21 wks they should definitely be able to tell you!

I think that's pretty late, but mostly I think it's weird that your ob thinks it will be a stretch to see sex at that point. Of course it's her practice, but does she have old, shitty equipment or something? An old, shitty us tech working for her? If they can't see sex at that point, will they be able to clearly see kidney, heart, brain, etc (you know, the important stuff)?

No worries, I'm canadian. The doctor schedules it, she's been amazing, from a friend who had a wonderful son in nov 2013, she told me the dr I have has wonderful bedside manners. I have to go to our hospital here to have the ultrasounds. I'm sure they want to make sure they are correct in everything they are seeing. I am booking an appt in Winnipeg (about four hours away) to get a 3d ultrasound but that's just for fun. First baby and all I want a nice scrapbook for them thanks ladies !!
