1st Trimester

12 weeks.. still no dr visit. cramps!

I found out I was pregnant around 6 weeks. I had just gotten married so it hadn't clicked til a week after the wedding. As soon as I found out I started making appts to find out about insurance through the state which of course took weeks. Then they canceled the appt the day I went in. Frustrated I went on groupon and bought an u/s for $35.. I just had to see if the baby was even there! It was. It measured 9 weeks and had a heart rate between 165-175. I rescheduled my insurance spot for mid December and the night before I found out we are being located back to Cali for my husbands job. In less than 3 weeks no less. So I'm waiting til the move to see a Dr. Insurance is easier out there anyway. Meanwhile I'm freaking out! Lurking on forums and trying to decipher these cramps I get daily. Sometimes I feel them in my cervix. Does anyone else get these around 12 weeks? This is my second so I might just be more aware of the little pains I'm feeling but its scary. Its been 6 years so I'm not even sure what tests I should have done by now

Cramping is normal, provided you have no heavy bleeding.

However, I am concerned you are 12 weeks and have only had an elective, non-medical ultrasound with a coupon off Groupon.

You really should see an OB - any OB - soon, as you are close to missing the cutoff for the NT scan.

  • Where I am at, all of our major providers do them, and all of our major insurance carriers cover it as well.  It's just part of our routine OB care, and not really elective.  But I suppose it isn't the same in all areas, especially if I am reading correctly and her State insurance is essentially Medicaid.

Hope you have an easy move!

  • Thank you. Medicaid is my go to right now. I have done some research and pregnancy isn't covered for a lot of plans for at least 2 years unless I get it through work or pay a ton. We will see what options I have after Jan 1. I'm sure I will be planning a repeat csection. It all adds up and this move is so sudden our funds will be drained.
