Yet another movement discussion...

I can't help but post this... I am 20w4d and I still am not quite sure I've felt movement. I still have the whole, "Was THAT baby? Did she just move, or was that gas? Was that tingle her?" feeling most of the time. I'm a FTM, so I know it's nothing unusual to not be sure, but seeing all these ladies that are FTMs at 17 and 18 weeks feeling movement makes me really jealous and makes me worry. I have my A/S Thursday, so seeing her squirming around will ease my worry, but no such luck with the jealousy!!! Anyone else feel like it's taking forever to feel their baby?? :(

Re: Yet another movement discussion...

  • I haven't felt anything that I could definitively identify as the baby either! I just found out at my OB appt this am that I have an anterior placenta, so that's why I haven't felt anything yet. Usually takes a bit longer but it's nothing to worry about! GL at your A/S today!

  • I'm not assuming anything here, but I have read that moms who are very thin feel movement sooner but moms who are heavier sometimes feel movement much later. If that's not an issue, I'll tell you that with my first pregnancy I didn't feel movement for sure until about 20wks. My SIL barely felt anything but flutters for her entire pregnancy and her baby was just fine. If you are super concerned, give your doc a buzz and see what he/she says. I'm sure you will feel you LO soon!!
  • I didn't feel my first until 23 weeks and I wasn't over weight so I think it's normal maybe baby is just lazy and doesn't want to kick hard yet? But gl at your AS I'm sure everything is just fine!!

  • I don't really feel anything either--every now and then I think I will feel a flutter, but I have a sensitive tummy and I can't tell if it is just gas/intestinal movement.

  • @asparagus95, I'm not stick thin, but I am 5'5 and my starting weight was around 138-140. I was running 25+ miles/week before I found out I was pregnant... That's why I'm a little concerned... I figured I'd at least feel her by now :( My friend, who is built a lot like me, felt her baby at 20 weeks. I'm trying really hard not to compare myself to her, but it's difficult not to! I hope you're right and I feel her soon!! :)

Thanks for all the encouragement, ladies :) I appreciate it!

  • I'm just 18 weeks FTM & have only felt a few little squirms. My placenta is also anterior. I don't worry. I just LOVE any kind of movement!! FXed we all feel awesome movement sooner than later!

FTM here, too. I felt flutters at 14 weeks, but not again until 16w. I haven't felt anymore flutters since, and I'm 18w today. The doc said it looked like I had an anterior placenta, but that was a while ago, so I'm sure with everything continuing to shift around, the feelings will come and go. I did rollover the other morning, and it felt like the rest of my belly was delayed in rolling, too. It was kinda gross TBH.

It's been said a million times, but it's true - all pregnancies are different. Don't stress yourself out by comparing your pregnancy to others. Do your best to go with the flow and enjoy it. It's early, so there's plenty of time for you to start feeling the bebe.

ETA, I lied. I'll be 18w tomorrow. My days are outta whack.

I hope I don't have an anterior placenta! I have had 2 ultrasounds already, I would hope the doctor would have told me that by now, but maybe he didn't?

I'll be sure to ask my doctor on Thursday if I haven't felt her by then!! :)

  • I didn't feel ds until 23 weeks last pregnancy due to an anterior placenta.  Makes a big change this one as I started feeling baby last week at still 16w+.  They say 18-22 weeks is the norm, so you still have time.  Good luck at your a/s.
  • I am 17 wks tomorrow and have just started to notice certain things in my tummy....everyone describes them as "flutters" but i was telling DH last night that sometimes it feels as though there is a teenie tiny phone vibrating in there.  just a quick little buzz every once in a while.  it's weird... but it's not like anything i've ever experienced before so i am humoring myself and chalking it up to baby movement.
  • I'm 19w, and I have definitely been feeling flutters for a couple weeks or so. I just wasn't sure if they were baby at first, and my OB office said it probably was when I described it. I've also started to feel some very small bumps, every once in a while. I know from my a/s that baby's feet are up high (that's where they were during the scan) and where I'm feeling the bumps would coordinate with that. So I'm starting to doubt it less, I think what I'm feeling really is the baby.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I am 19w and haven't felt anything that I was sure about.  I have felt what I think might have been movement here and there, but who knows.  I also have an anterior placenta though, and did not find out until the a/s.  They told me it could still be a couple more weeks til I feel anything because of that, so don't worry

  • I haven't felt much either, feels mostly like weird little muscle spasms going on (STM's-it feels like phantom baby kicks). I use my doppler once a week for peace of mind. Last time I used it, the kid kicked it so hard the wand moved! Fine, if you don't like the doppler, move a little every once in a while!!

  • I'm 19 weeks and I think maybe I felt something for the first time yesterday, but honestly, I'm really not sure.  I'm a FTM too.
  • I "think" I've felt her a handful of times but only 2 times where I've been sure.  Also, every time we've gone for an u/s our little lady is just lounging - no squirming so I don't even get to see that
  • I was positive I felt movement last week at 17w but haven't felt anything since then. I was really worried about that. FTM I assumed that once I started feeling it, I would feel it all the time. The U/S tech on Monday told me not to worry, that's just how it goes. Little man was pretty active in there but I still haven't felt anything else yet. Good luck!

  • STM and I started feeling consistent movement this week at 19 1/2 weeks. It felt like forever since I felt DS everyday since 18w! I just think this one is lazy :) It will happen one day and never stop!

  • I'm also FTM and 19 weeks today, earlier this week I THINK I may have felt something.  I described it to DH as the baby giving me little tickles from inside :)  Seems like I feel the most when I lie down in bed at night for some reason.
  • I have an anterior placenta this time which I did not the first. I am only feeling slight flutters this time. I am the same weight as last time. My first, I felt her at 14 weeks.

@thagy2012 Just a quick heads up that an anterior placenta is nothing to be concerned about. I have one and when my MW was going over my ultrasound she didn't even bring it up. I think they're actually pretty common, tons of M14 ladies have them.
  • I have an anterior placenta and was told movement might be felt much later for me. I just finally felt my first, "I'm sure that was baby" movement on Sunday but that was only once and the other couple times I really couldn't be sure.

Anterior just means "nearer the front" it's nothing bad but it can cushion those early kicks and movements.

I get jealous, too. But for some of us, it just takes longer. :)
  • I know having an anterior placenta is nothing to be concerned about medically, I just don't want feeling movement to be put off any longer than it has to be!

I'm a FTM @ 19w5d & I was confused at first too! I think I felt her moving / flutters around 17 weeks, last week the little kicks started happening, definitely knew it was her... Kinda feels like flicking inside my lower abdomen. Now they're a lot stronger & I can feel them on the outside too! Hang in there & you'll know it when it happens :)
  • I've been feeling things that I've said "Is that the baby?" I work in library, so when I go to shelve on the lower shelves I crouch down and lean forward. A few times I felt like I felt something... like the baby saying "ROOM!" However, last week I was just standing perfectly still looking at a book and I felt like something bumped into me, very lightly, right in my lower abdomen. If that wasn't the baby I'm not sure what it was!
