No Exercise and Eating Crap

I'm beginning to get a little paranoid about my horrible eating habits and lack of exercise.  When I'm at work, I actually eat pretty well but once I get home...bring on the pizza, chinese, whatever I don't have to cook!  I used to go to the gym 3-4 times a week and I haven't been in almost 2 weeks.  I've been in bed ALL DAY today...I'm not really feeling sick,,,just blah.  I guess my new year's resolution will be to get myself to the gym and to eat well.

  • I'm with you!  DH and I got a gym membership about a month before our BFP, and I was just getting in the groove... now, all I do is eat crap and lay on the couch!  I'm hoping the energy will come back next week.  Then I can start cooking and working out again.  GL to you!

  • I was going 4-5 days a week and was in a great routine, but I haven't gone for over a month now! I've also been eating a lot b/c that's the only thing that has been helping with the nausea. I'm planning to get back to the gym once I start feeling better...even if it is a month from now....better late than never!
  • Is this your first pregnancy?  Because if it is, I will be annoying and share advice as someone who has had a baby and had to lose all that baby weight.  I'm naturally thin and have metabolism on my side, but even for me it was HARD to lose that weight.  You will be so much more at an advantage if you keep up your exercise routine as best you can now.  It's not just the weight - I didn't work out in my last pregnancy being way too neurotic, and your muscles just atrophy.  You will be trying to lose weight while your muscles are all weak and it will be a struggle.  Even if it's just a light 20 minutes on the elliptical, keep it up as best you can because you'll thank yourself later.

    As far as the eating, I would eat whatever feels good but just control the portion sizes.  Nothing wrong with pizza for example  -just go for thin crust and add on healthy veggies like mushrooms. 

  • I'm about 8 weeks.  And, that's not annoying, Berry...that's good advice.  One of the main reasons I was going to the gym in the first place is because I have about 30 pounds to lose.  Pregancy was a little bit of a surprise so I'm already stressed out about gaining too much.  I've also heard that keeping up with exercise can make labor easier.  Okay, I'm feeling more motivated!!
  • i've been making it to the gym...but eating like crap. hopefully it evens out ; )  definitely not working out like i used to, but the past couple of weeks i feel i'm starting to get a little energy back and have been more inclined to go to the gym.

    i have heard from several friends that have had kids, that you'll be so happy if you keep up your workouts while pg- whatever that is for you. it makes everything easier- labor, losing the weight, etc.

  • Oh I have been the same...I feel like a bowling ball from all the bloat. I actually cant wait to get on the treadmill in the morning!
  • i haven't exercised at all.  and as soon as i find out i'm pg. i have the urge to eat everything uhealthy.  why is that???!!!!?  i hope i dont' gain as much weight as last pregnancy either b/c like the other post said it doesn't come off as easily as you may think.  and now that i'll have 2 kids i don't know if i'll be able to exercise near as much as i did after having DS.

  • Don't be too hard on yourself.  I did the same thing with DD.  My OB told me just to make sure that I balanced the bad with the good.  Pizza?  Have some veggies on it.  Chinese?  Stay away from the really fried stuff and too much sauce.  It is tough when you are tired-I can totally understand. 
  • I know what you mean.  I was doing so well with my eating and my excercising before baby.  I had actually worked my way up to running 3 miles a day and I had lost a lot of weight with Atkins.  When I found out I was pregnant I immediately stopped Atkins (it's not safe when prego) and well the excercising went with it.  I need to get my bum on my treadmill!!! Argh.

    This is a really good motivational thread everyone! Keep the advice coming!

  • I eat like a pig, so it's not that I'm really trying to control my weight, but I seriously just feel 100 times better about myself when I exercise regularly. Go to the gym, you'll feel better! Or just take a walk!
